Central Utility Services ~ Central Telecommunications ~ is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Manager to oversee the planning, deployment, and day-to-day operations of our network infrastructure across Vancouver Island. In this role, you will lead a skilled team of field technicians and analysts to deliver reliable, high-performance voice, data, and wireless communication systems. The ideal candidate brings a blend of technical network expertise and strong leadership to handle regional expansions, vendor relationships, and critical infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations Leadership: Direct and evaluate daily telecommunications operations, tracking system performance and installation metrics to maximize uptime.
- Project Management: Lead the design and deployment of regional telecom infrastructure, including fiber optics, low-voltage cabling, VoIP platforms, and wireless networks.
- Team Management: Recruit, train, mentor, and schedule regional field technicians and contractors.
- Vendor & Carrier Oversight: Manage relationships with primary telecom utility providers and third-party vendors to ensure cost-effective, high-quality service levels.
- Regulatory Compliance:
Maintain full compliance with local engineering standards and federal telecommunications regulations.
- Strategic Growth: Partner with senior leadership to design long-term expansion frameworks that scale with Vancouver Island's regional commercial development.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 5–8 years of progressive telecommunications experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of outside plant (OSP) construction, microcelis, radio/microwave systems, fibre or copper splicing.
- Education: Diploma in telecommunications, or a related technical discipline.
- Licences: Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record (frequent travel across Vancouver Island sites is required).
- Skills: Outstanding project management, problem-solving, and communication skills to navigate multidisciplinary stakeholder environments.
Work Workplace
- Travel across regional island sites is required.
- Occasional after-hours or weekend emergency response leadership may be necessary to ensure continuous network availability.
Pay: $58.00-$72.00 per hour
