Position Highlights
Construction Contracts Specialist – Team Lead
Capital Construction, within Project Delivery, is responsible for a multi-billion-dollar portfolio comprising of more than 2,000
active contracts. The Capital Construction Group safely delivers large, multi-disciplined, complex high-risk projects that span
multiple years. The group adheres to well-developed standards, has developed and maintained outstanding supplier
partnerships as well as stakeholder and First Nations relations. Through continuous improvement of our people, processes,
and tools, we are responsible for all aspects of the safe construction of capital projects.
The Strategic Service Contracts and Claims Division within Capital Construction requires a Contract Specialist Team Lead
to lead the Oversight and Conformance Team responsible for the Engineering and Project Delivery Consultant (EPDC),
Transmission and Distribution Portfolio. This team manages strategic contracts that support the delivery of a wide portfolio
of engineering, project delivery, and related professional services. The successful candidate will lead a team of
management and professional (M&P;) and unionized staff responsible for the performance management, execution,
administration, and continuous improvement of strategic Master Services Agreements, ensuring effective contract oversight,
service delivery, and stakeholder collaboration.
The Construction Contracts Specialist – Team Lead works with multiple stakeholders, including Project Delivery,
Operations, Program and Contract Management (PCM), Engineering, Enterprise Category Management, cross functional
teams, Sponsors and Executives to implement and manage multi-year corporate-wide strategic contracts.
What you'll do
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to develop skills and knowledge within the team while fostering a positive,
productive and healthy work environment.
- Develop resource management plans to ensure the team is effectively organized and resourced, with available budgets.
- Responsible for vendor and stakeholder relationship management and contract benefits realization - with a focus on the
category sourcing strategy.
- Develop and implement business and contract management process improvements, managing change across internal
and external stakeholders.
- Lead the team in identifying alternatives to address vendor performance issues, relationship management issues and
vendor non-compliance, ensuring lessons learned are identified and applied and turning difficult conversations into
constructive, mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Ensure supplier relationships and performance are being managed, evaluated and improved upon as required including
proactive identification of contract opportunities to enable expected benefits from the sourcing strategics.
- Conduct analytics, develop strategies, and provide advice on contract delivery models and contract related issues to
senior management and other stakeholders
- May fulfill the Hydro’s Representative (or Delegate) role on the Master Services Agreements to ensure the contracts are
executed in accordance with the terms and conditions and BC Hydro financial policy.
What you bring
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as Business, Law, Finance, or Engineering and 12+ years of supply
chain/contract management experience supporting projects or operations with complex contracts.
A combination of
education, professional training and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- A record of continuous professional development specific to the requirements of the role.
- Strong technical background or competency in engineering or project management, and one or more professional
designations (ie. PMP, SCMP, IACCM) is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience leading people, including coaching and mentoring.
- Solid experience leading the management of complex services contracts, negotiations, project and contract risk and
strategic supplier relationships.
- Demonstrated experience in change management and leading internal teams and vendors through change.
- Experience communicating effectively verbally and in written form to various levels of audiences including senior leaders
and executives.
- Proven ability in influencing internal and external stakeholders, managing risk and leading innovation.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to develop and execute long-term strategic plans.
- Strong analysis and risk assessment skills.
- Knowledge of project management principles and the capital project lifecycle is an asset.
