YOUR OPPORTUNITY

The Town of Oromocto is seeking a skilled and motivated Welder / Fleet Maintenance Operator to join our

Engineering and Public Works team.

This is a dynamic, hands-on position within our municipal fleet garage where no two days are the same. Reporting

to the Fleet and Safety Compliance Supervisor, you will help keep our municipal fleet operating safely and efficiently

through welding, fabrication, preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs. From snowplows and loaders to

trucks, trailers, and specialized municipal equipment, your work will directly support the delivery of essential services

to the residents of Oromocto.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform MIG (GMAW) and SMAW (Stick) welding on municipal fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers,

attachments, and related equipment

- Fabricate, modify, and repair custom parts, brackets, guards, dump bodies, snowplows, sanders, buckets, and

other equipment components

- Cut, fit, grind, and prepare materials for welding and fabrication projects

- Maintain welding equipment and ensure high-quality workmanship

- Assist with preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on municipal vehicles and heavy equipment

- Remove, install, and repair hydraulic, brake, suspension, and mechanical components





- Assist with diagnosing equipment failures and completing corrective repairs

- Complete work orders, maintenance reports, inspections, and related documentation

- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

- Operate tools, equipment, and machinery in a safe and efficient manner

- Adhere to municipal policies, procedures, and occupational health and safety requirements

- Participate in winter maintenance activities and emergency response operations as required

- Build positive working relationships with coworkers, contractors, and other municipal staff

- Support other Public Works operations as required

- Perform other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

- High School Diploma or equivalent

- Completion of a recognized welding program

- Interprovincial Red Seal Welder Certificate, Provincial F4 Welder Certificate, or equivalent recognized welding

certification acceptable to the Municipality

- Minimum three (3) years of welding and fabrication experience

- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience working on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, agricultural

equipment, or industrial machinery

- Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements and safe work practices

- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and repair documentation

- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills

- Ability to work independently and within a team environment

- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting up to 50 lbs

- Willingness to work extended hours and respond to emergency call-outs when required

- Valid Class 5 New Brunswick Driver's Licence with satisfactory driver's abstract





- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

- English essential; bilingualism is considered an asset but is not required

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to candidates possessing one or more of the following:

- Red Seal Welder Certification

- Previous CWB qualifications

- Heavy Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport Technician experience

- Hydraulic systems experience

- Diesel engine experience

- Experience maintaining municipal, construction, or industrial equipment

- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)

- Class 3 New Brunswick Driver's Licence

- Air Brake Endorsement

- WHMIS, First Aid, Fall Protection, or Confined Space training

- Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes

SALARY

- $34.12 - $39.47 per hour (2026 rates), plus comprehensive benefits and participation in the Municipal

Employees Pension Plan, in accordance with the CUPE Local No. 996 Collective Agreement.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

- Permanent, full-time bargaining position

- Department of Public Works

- Monday to Friday schedule with occasional overtime as required

- Participation in after-hours and emergency response activities may be required

- Wages and benefits administered in accordance with the CUPE Local No. 996 Collective Bargaining

Agreement

- Residence must be within a thirty (30) minute response time of the Department of Engineering and Public

Works
