Introduction

RS Recruitment Services is assisting an organisation in the materials handling and industrial services industry to recruit a FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN – ELECTRIC MATERIALS HANDLING EQUIPMENT, to be based in DURBAN NORTH. Salary: R9 500 – R18 000 per month cost to company, depending on skills and experience. Candidates with higher technical qualifications or broader experience are welcome to apply and may be considered at an adjusted salary level. This is a permanent position offering long‑term stability for the right candidate.

Purpose of the Job

This is a hands‑on permanent, technical role suited to someone with electrical or mechanical experience. The technician will be doing servicing, inspections, repairs and general maintenance, electrical testing and equipment diagnostics.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

- Equipment Servicing & Maintenance. Planned maintenance, safety checks and mechanical repairs. Replace components such as switches, contactors, solenoids, bearings and brake parts.




- Breakdown & Repair Support. Customer site breakdowns. Perform electrical tests, part replacements and mechanical fault resolution.
- Documentation & Reporting. Complete job cards, service reports and inspection notes accurately. Maintain explicit records of work done and parts used.
- Customer & Team Support. Communicate professionally with customers when attending sites. Maintain tools and equipment responsibly.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications Required

Essential

- General mechanical or electrical experience, ideally gained in forklift, golf cart, utility vehicle or automotive electrical environments.
- Basic electrical understanding and ability to use a multimeter for simple tests.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Physical ability to perform field service duties.
- N2–N3 Electrical or Mechanical qualification.
- Exposure to materials handling equipment.
- Automotive electrical experience.

A full artisan qualification would be a robust advantage.

- Trade‑tested Automotive Electrician
- Trade‑tested Millwright
- Trade‑tested Motor Mechanic with strong auto‑electrical experience

Recognised forklift or materials‑handling technician qualification
