Salary: $64,367.58 - $72,917.30 – Permanent Full time, based on a 35-hour work week.
An additional 10.75% Job Family Market Multiplier will be added to the posted salary.
An additional 3% Location Allowance will be added to posted salary for northern location.
About the Job:
The Fleet & Safety Coordinator (Coordinator) is responsible for managing the safe and reliable operation of BCER’s corporate fleet, field equipment, and related operational assets. The role integrates fleet and asset management with occupational health and safety (OH&S;) coordination to support safe and effective field operations across the organization.
The Coordinator leads full lifecycle management of fleet assets, including planning, maintenance, replacement, and vendor coordination, while integrating safety requirements into operational practices. The role also supports the delivery and continuous improvement of OH&S; programs through safety coordination activities such as risk assessments and drills, supporting incident response, maintaining safety documentation, and delivering training and guidance.
Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, this role promotes a culture of safety, operational readiness, and compliance, ensuring compliance with OH&S; legislation, corporate standards, and established program requirements, while supporting the BCER’s regulatory mandate and organizational priorities.

Responsibilities
Fleet Operations & Field Readiness
Oversee the full lifecycle of BCER’s vehicle fleet, including procurement, maintenance, inspections, insurance, assignment, tracking, replacement, and disposal, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations.
Ensure fleet readiness and reliability by implementing preventative maintenance programs, monitoring vehicle condition and utilization, resolving operational issues, and minimizing service disruptions.
Establish and maintain fleet standards, policies, and practices aligned with safety, regulatory (transportation and OH&S;), and operational requirements.
Monitor and analyze fleet utilization, performance, reliability, and lifecycle data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities to inform replacement planning.
Inform on budget forecasts, monitor fleet expenditures, and recommend cost control and efficiency measures.
Manage vendor relationships and service contracts to ensure performance, accountability and value.
Lead the end-to-end delivery of fleet refresh cycles, vendor installations, and delivery logistics.
Occupational Health and Safety Program Coordination
Integrate occupational health and safety (OH&S;) requirements into fleet operations and field readiness activities.
Provide guidance on the interpretation and application of relevant transportation, road safety, and OH&S; legislation, regulations, and standards, and identify opportunities to strengthen safety programs and processes.
Build and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (e.g., WorkSafeBC) to support consistent fleet and OH&S; practices across BCER locations, including for staff working in or travelling between offices and field environments.
Coordinate the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of OH&S; policies and procedures with support from the Director, Learning & Development.
Support the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees (JOHSC) to full scope of regulatory requirements and promote effective governance.
Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety activities (i.e. drills, ergonomic assessments, etc.), and ensure appropriate mitigation and corrective actions are implemented.
Coordinate required occupational testing (e.g. hearing, environmental, etc.) and maintain safety documentation and records.
Lead, and support incident investigations, document findings, and coordinate corrective actions.
Compliance & Program Support
Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and internal policies related to fleet operations and workplace safety.
Maintain comprehensive documentation, records, and tracking systems for emissions data, driver abstracts, certifications, and usage logs, to support reporting, compliance, and accountability.
Provide advice, guidance, training, tools, and resources to staff and leadership on safe work practices, fleet operations, and compliance matters.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of fleet and OH&S; programs using data analysis, audits, and performance metrics, and report findings as required.
Identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and recommend improvements to enhance compliance, safety performance, and program effectiveness.
Qualifications
Education:
Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Business Administration, Logistics, Occupational Health and Safety or a related field, and a minimum of three years of related experience.
Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Business Administration, Logistics, Occupational Health and Safety or a related field, and a minimum of four years of related experience.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Certification in fleet, procurement, asset management, or logistics is an asset.
Experience:
Demonstrated experience coordinating and maintaining fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance, inspections, scheduling, roadside support, incident reporting, and field-based troubleshooting, preferably in public sector or regulatory environments.
Demonstrated experience managing the lifecycle of physical assets, including procurement, delivery, installation, tracking, disposal, and coordination with external vendors.
Demonstrated experience supporting occupational health and safety functions.
Demonstrated experience managing policy compliance and service delivery across geographically distributed sites.
Demonstrated experience using enterprise systems (e.g. Great Plains or similar).
Demonstrated experience applying knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation, regulation, policies, procedures, standards, and best practices.
Demonstrated experience coordinating programs and projects, including planning, implementation, and monitoring of activities and deliverables.
Demonstrated experience developing and delivering of training, tools, or resources to support safe and effective work practices.
Demonstrated experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting on data to support decision-making, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Demonstrated experience supporting or leading incident investigations, including documentation and implementation of corrective actions.
Demonstrated experience supporting the development, implementation, and/or continuous improvement of policies and procedures.
Demonstrated experience conducting hazard and risk assessments, ergonomic assessments, and implementing required mitigation measures.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required. Role required to operate vehicles.
Frequent exposure to northern B.C. field conditions including extreme weather and remote environments.
Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs, using basic mechanical tools (e.g., drills, jacks), operating vehicles and equipment, and routine vehicle maintenance activities.
Respond to urgent, after-hours service requests as needed.
