Summary

As Providence Health Care prepares for the opening of the Recent St. Paul's Hospital, some aspects of this position may evolve during the transition period. While the overall nature of the role is expected to remain substantially the same, operational requirements may result in adjustments to scheduling, FTE, unit assignment, site or other operational details.

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Supervisor or designate, performs skilled heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration work at a journeyperson level in fabrication, installation, alteration, repair and/or service of refrigeration/cooling or air handling systems in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience

Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a Journeyperson Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic or equivalent trade, Class “B” Gas Fitter’s License with an electrical endorsement recognized by the Province of BC. Two (2) years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Repairs, maintains and installs heating,



ventilating and air conditioning on a variety of systems such as pneumatic, electrical and electronic, based on manufactures recommendations.
2. Prepares for work projects by performing operational and safety risk assessments, arranges work schedules with user departments, and assembles supplies, tools and equipment.
3. Installs and repairs refrigeration systems such as fridges, freezers, coolers and ice machines. Installs motors, controls, switches and threads piping for gas and other fluids.
4. Operates and programs heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment such as Building Automation Computer Systems.
5. Performs preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and control systems by performing duties such as replacing bearings, filters, fluids, refrigeration levels and cleaning of components.
6. Performs air balancing tests by using equipment such as velometers and static pressure equipment.
7. Performs mechanical repairs on general and specialized equipment such as compressors, steam valves, supply and exhaust fans, pumps and sterilizing equipment.
