Senior Bookkeeper
Type: Full-Time
Location(s): Vaughan, Ontario, Canada
Hybrid
Compensation: CAD $65,000 - CAD $80,000 Annually
Produce dependable internal financial reports
Important Location Requirement:
This is a remote position; however, candidates must be located in the same country, city, or region where the job is posted. The successful candidate must be available to attend a local office, meeting, training session, or company event if requested.
Please only apply if you are based in the location listed on this job posting. Remote does not mean the position is open worldwide.
The Opportunity
The Rothenbury Group is seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to maintain reliable financial records across a portfolio of Canadian businesses.
This position will support multiple companies and legal entities with different operating activities, bank accounts, departments, transactions, and reporting requirements. The person hired will be responsible for reconciliations, general-ledger accuracy, GST/HST accounting, payroll entries, intercompany activity, month-end support, financial reporting, and year-end preparation.
We are looking for someone who takes responsibility for the overall condition of the books. When accounts do not reconcile, transactions are assigned to the wrong entity, or historical balances lack support, you will be expected to investigate the issue and correct it properly.
This is a senior individual-contributor position. It is not intended for someone whose experience is primarily limited to entering transactions, categorizing bank-feed activity, or processing invoices.
Recruitment Process
Applications are reviewed based on Canadian bookkeeping experience, education, accounting-system knowledge, multi-company exposure, and the level of responsibility held in previous positions.
Candidates selected for screening will receive an email within one to two business days of applying with a link to complete a pre-recorded video interview.
The interview will evaluate your full-cycle bookkeeping experience, reconciliation skills, GST/HST knowledge, payroll accounting, intercompany experience, Quick Books Online proficiency, month-end judgment, and ability to maintain accurate records independently.
Candidates who demonstrate the required level of experience may be invited to a live interview.

Complete monthly bank and credit-card reconciliations
Investigate missing transactions, duplicate entries, stale reconciling items, and unusual account activity

Maintain prepaid-expense, fixed-asset, payroll, tax, intercompany, and balance-sheet schedules
Record and reconcile shared expenses, reimbursements, transfers, and due-to/due-from balances between related companies
Confirm that intercompany balances agree across all affected entities
Apply appropriate GST/HST treatment to revenue and expenses
Reconcile GST/HST collected, paid, recoverable, and payable amounts
Prepare supporting schedules for GST/HST return review
Record payroll expenses, deductions, employer costs, vacation pay, remittances, and payroll liabilities
Reconcile payroll reports, clearing accounts, and government-remittance balances to the general ledger
Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable subledgers to their control accounts
Investigate differences between aging reports and general-ledger balances
Support monthly close and confirm that transactions are recorded in the correct period
Prepare profit-and-loss statements, balance sheets, cash summaries, and other internal financial reports
Review financial results for unusual fluctuations, negative balances, unexplained items, or figures that do not appear reasonable
Maintain complete accounting documentation, reconciliation files, journal-entry support, and year-end working papers
Respond to questions from management, internal departments, and external accounting professionals
Identify recurring bookkeeping issues and recommend improvements to processes, controls, and documentation
Education and Qualified Requirements
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration with an accounting concentration, or a closely related field

Who Will Succeed in This Position
You are methodical, dependable, and comfortable being accountable for financial records that affect several businesses.
You understand that bookkeeping is not complete when transactions have simply been posted. Accounts must reconcile, balances must be supported, transactions must be assigned to the correct entity and period, and unusual results must be investigated.
You can manage multiple sets of books without combining records or allowing intercompany differences to remain unresolved.
You also understand your authority limits. You know when a correction can be completed through an established process and when a material, unusual, or unsupported matter requires management or finance-lead review.
Performance Expectations
The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To
Maintain accurate, current, and well-supported accounting records
Complete bank and credit-card reconciliations within established timelines
Keep general-ledger and balance-sheet accounts clean
Maintain accurate GST/HST balances and supporting schedules
Reconcile payroll liabilities and remittances
Ensure intercompany balances agree across related businesses
Reconcile AP and AR subledgers to the general ledger
Record accruals, prepaids, depreciation, and recurring entries correctly
Complete month-end schedules accurately and on time
Produce dependable internal financial reports
Identify balances or financial results that appear incorrect or unreasonable
Maintain organized documentation for management and external review
Resolve accounting discrepancies rather than carrying them forward
Keep the books prepared for year-end accounting and tax work
Financial Authority
The Senior Bookkeeper may prepare reconciliations, schedules, journal entries, accounting corrections, payment records, tax-support schedules, and financial reports within approved procedures.
Management Or Finance‐lead Approval Is Required Before
Releasing company funds
Changing compensation or payroll instructions
Writing off balances
Approving material refunds or settlements
Filing tax returns without delegated authority
Changing accounting policies or established treatments
Reopening closed periods
Posting significant, unusual, or unsupported journal entries outside the approved process
Compensation
The annual compensation range for this position is:
C$65,000-C$80,000
Final compensation will depend on the candidate's Canadian bookkeeping experience, multi-company and intercompany background, reconciliation ability, GST/HST and payroll knowledge, month-end and year-end capability, Quick Books Online proficiency, and ability to independently maintain accurate and review-ready financial records.
