The Financial Controller will play a key role in the Company's financial reporting, accounting, budgeting, and compliance activities, working closely with the Chief Financial Officer, external service providers, and finance team. As the Company transitions from exploration to development, and eventually operations, the Financial Controller will be instrumental in financial process improvement and systems implementations that align with the Company's project timelines.
The role includes supporting financial management across Canadian and U.S. operations and helping ensure reporting, controls, and compliance requirements are met across jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the quarterly and annual external financial reporting process.
- Review consolidated financial statements and related supporting materials
- Coordinate review of financial statements and MD&A; with internal stakeholders and external auditors.
- Act as a key liaison with external auditors and accounting advisors.
Cost Reporting & Cash Forecasting
- Support the annual budgeting process in coordination with functional and site leadership.
- Review cost reporting and variance analysis to support management decision-making.
- Oversee general ledger and project cost coding practices to support accurate reporting.
- Support cash forecasting, budget tracking, and related financial planning activities.
Reporting & Accounting
- Coordinate project and management reporting requirements as needed.
- Review accounting classifications and coding practices for consistency.
Compliance
- Oversee Canadian and U.S. tax compliance processes in coordination with external advisors.
- Coordinate supporting information for periodic and annual tax filings.
- Support cross-border compliance requirements and related advisory work.
- Review of payroll, benefits, and related employer compliance processes across applicable jurisdictions.
Payment Review
- Review vendor payment processes and support payment prioritization and controls.
Insurance
- Coordinate financial information required for insurance renewals and related corporate matters.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting efficiency, and internal controls.
ERP Systems
- Support evaluation and use of financial systems to meet business and reporting needs.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on system improvements or implementation initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in financial reporting and accounting, preferably in the mining or resource sector.
- Strong understanding of IFRS, financial reporting, and relevant Canadian and U.S. compliance considerations.
- Experience supporting cross-border operations, transactions, or reporting requirements.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cost reporting.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
