Nitrogen Equipment Operator – Trainee (Class 1 Driver required)
This role may also be known as: N2 Operator Trainee, Field Nitrogen Technician, Class 1 Driver / Nitrogen Pump Operator, Entry-Level Nitrogen Equipment Operator
Drive, train, and grow into a skilled equipment operator — home-based near Crossfield, AB, with pay that doesn't dry up when the work does.
Steady base salary plus a daily field bonus, so your income doesn't disappear when jobs slow down.
You're not living in the field — when there's no work, you're on call and still paid, not stuck at camp.
Full training provided, so your driving record matters more than your nitrogen or oilfield background.
If you've got a Class 1 license and a clean driving record, we want to talk to you. This is an entry-level prospect to build a real trade career operating specialized mobile nitrogen generation equipment on well sites across Alberta. You'll start as a trainee, working alongside an experienced supervisor who will mentor you through every step — from the basics of the equipment to running the unit yourself.
What makes this different from a typical field job is the pay structure. A lot of companies in this space pay a high field rate but a much lower base, which means your income swings hard when work is slow. Here, the base salary is set higher than many competitors specifically so you have security — you're paid your salary even during on-call downtime between jobs, not just when you're out in the field.
There's also real room to grow. Operators move through three levels of increasing responsibility,
and a strong performer can step into a supervisory role within about two years.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
Unlike roles built entirely around field-rate pay, this position gives you a higher guaranteed base so slow stretches don't threaten your paycheck. You'll join a small, tight-knit crew where personality fit is taken seriously and professional respect is the standard — not a revolving door of strangers. And because it's a trainee-level role, no nitrogen or oil and gas background is required; the company invests in getting you fully trained and certified.
What You'll Be Doing
Operate and help maintain mobile nitrogen generation equipment safely and according to standard procedures
Safely drive a Class 1 tractor-trailer to and from well sites, completing pre- and post-trip inspections and driver logbooks
Assist with rigging up and rigging down equipment under the guidance of an experienced supervisor
Monitor the nitrogen unit during pumping operations and learn to identify and flag basic issues
Complete daily field reports, participate in safety meetings, and help identify hazards on site
Build toward greater responsibility as you progress through the operator training levels
What We're Looking For
Valid Class 1 driver's license with at least six months of driving experience A clean, insurable driving record
Comfortable in a field-based, safety-sensitive environment with variable, on-call scheduling
Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
Willingness to travel to well sites and work closely as part of a small crew
Trucking or oilfield experience is a bonus, not a requirement — full training is provided
Existing First Aid, H2S Alive, or CSO tickets are an asset (we'll get you certified if you don't already have them)
Compensation & Work Model
Base salary of $50,000–$60,000 plus a field bonus of $225–$300 per day worked, with total compensation potential of $100,000–$120,000 per year. Also includes a safety bonus twice a year, RSP matching, and medical benefits. This is a full-time, permanent, field-based position with paid on-call standby between jobs.
Location & Travel
Based out of Crossfield, AB. Candidates should be located within about an hour's drive (from the Red Deer area down to the outskirts of Calgary). Field work involves travel to well sites, with transportation, accommodation, and per diems covered by the company.
