Quality Control Inspector, Afternoon Shift
Location: Sarnia, Ontario
ProMart Industrial is growing, and we are looking for an experienced Quality Control Inspector to support our afternoon shift fabrication operations.
Quality at ProMart is not a final paperwork exercise. It is built into the work from the moment material enters our facility through fabrication, inspection, and final release.
We need someone who is comfortable being on the shop floor, working directly with lead hands, fitters, welders, and production personnel. This person must be confident making timely decisions, willing to speak up when something is not right, and committed to protecting quality without losing sight of schedule and production.
With a strong backlog extending into 2028, this is an opportunity to support major industrial, nuclear, mining, defence, and infrastructure projects across Canada.
Responsibilities
- Perform receiving, in process, and final inspections of structural steel, miscellaneous metals, welded assemblies, and fabricated components
- Review drawings, specifications, inspection and test plans, welding procedures, client requirements, and applicable codes before inspection
- Verify material identification, grades, dimensions, heat numbers, and traceability documentation
- Inspect fit up, dimensions, hole locations, orientation, weld preparation, weld size, weld profile, and overall workmanship
- Confirm fabrication is completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, welding procedures, and project requirements
- Perform visual welding inspections and coordinate nondestructive examination when required
- Complete required hold point and witness point inspections
- Verify that welders are properly qualified and using the correct welding procedure for the work being performed
- Identify nonconforming work and ensure it is properly documented, controlled, corrected, and reinspected
- Prepare inspection reports, checklists, weld maps, deficiency reports, and other quality records
- Maintain accurate material traceability and support the completion of project turnover documentation
- Confirm measuring and inspection equipment is properly calibrated and suitable for use
- Work closely with afternoon shift lead hands and production personnel to identify concerns before they affect downstream fabrication
- Communicate quality concerns clearly and professionally to production, project management, engineering, and the Quality Manager
- Support client, third party, and regulatory inspections when required
- Participate in continuous improvement and help strengthen quality awareness throughout the shop
- Follow all ProMart safety, quality, and operating procedures
What We Are Looking For
- Previous quality control experience in a structural steel, welding, or industrial fabrication environment
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, welding processes, and inspection practices
- The ability to read and interpret shop drawings, engineering drawings, welding symbols, specifications, and inspection requirements
- Experience using measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, micrometers, weld gauges, and other inspection equipment
- Knowledge of CSA W59, CWB requirements, and CSA W47.1 is strongly preferred
- Current CWB Welding Inspector Level 1 or Level 2 certification is a strong asset
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 or CSA N299 quality management system is an asset
- Experience with material traceability, inspection and test plans, nonconformance reporting, and turnover documentation
- Robust attention to detail and the confidence to raise concerns when work does not meet requirements
- The ability to work independently and make sound decisions while supporting a busy afternoon production shift
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Comfortable using computers and electronic quality management systems
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- The ability to work afternoon shift hours and overtime when required
