Location - This role is in-person at the Grande Prairie Northwestern Polytechnic Health Education Centre.
This is a full-time administrative position that is based in Grande Prairie at the Northwestern Polytechnic Health Education Centre, located in the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. The incumbent will join a dedicated team responsible for the comprehensive delivery of the four-year MD curriculum within the Northern Alberta Medical Program (NAMP).
The NAMP offers learners the prospect to gain hands-on clinical experience across diverse northern Alberta communities, emphasizing rural and regional healthcare. The Teacher Development and Support Coordinator works both independently and collaboratively to achieve the success of the Northern Alberta Medical Program and the fulfillment of mutual goals for students and teachers.
Under the guidance and supervision of the Team Lead Curriculum, the Teacher Development and Support Coordinator is a member of the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Northern Alberta Medical Program’s administrative team. This position will work with the Teacher Support Lead with NAMP, as well as the related teams in Edmonton at the MD Program office.
Responsibilities
- Lead Instructor Recruitment & Onboarding: Develop and implement a comprehensive global recruitment process for new NAMP instructors and clinical preceptors, serving as the primary point of contact to ensure efficient onboarding and that all faculty have the necessary appointments and resources.
- Strategic Resource Planning: Collaborate with the Curriculum Team to execute annual mapping exercises,
identifying teaching gaps across the MD program and proactively planning educator resources to mitigate future staffing needs.
- Faculty Development & Coaching: Organize professional development events and workshops, acting as a facilitator resource to help instructors build confidence and improve their teaching strategies.
- Quality Improvement & Feedback: Work with Teaching Quality Coordinators to develop processes for collecting and sharing feedback with instructors, delivering individualized, actionable insights to advance educational excellence.
- Recognition & Engagement: Develop and maintain a strategy to appropriately recognize teaching contributions, including coordinating teacher appreciation events and recognition initiatives.
- Administrative & Committee Support: Provide core administrative support for the NAMP Teacher Support lead and any relevant committees.
Qualifications
- A post-secondary degree in Education is required, though an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated proficiency and advanced knowledge in educational methodology, instructional facilitation, and pedagogical frameworks.
- More than 3 years of administrative experience within a medical or academic setting is highly desirable.
- Capacity to work highly effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Requires exceptional written and verbal communication, adaptability in complex environments, strong multitasking and decision-making abilities, team-based collaboration, advanced time management, and event planning skills.
- High proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and specialized systems like Cally, assess.med, and exam.med, with the ability to quickly master new software.
