Senior Manager, Study Site Engagement
Location: Toronto , Ontario
Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Study Site Engagement is responsible for building and maintaining robust partnerships between clinical study teams, investigative sites, and Clinical Research Organizations (CROs) to support the successful execution of clinical trials. This role serves as a key regional resource throughout the clinical trial lifecycle, from feasibility and site selection through study closeout, while driving site engagement, recruitment, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Study Site Engagement
Feasibility & Site Identification
- Support country and site feasibility activities, including site identification and site selection.
- Assist in developing and maintaining site feasibility trackers and monitoring progress.
- Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, and CRO teams to support feasibility and site selection activities.
- Participate in Pre-Study Visits (PSVs) as required.
- Track country and site selection activities and escalate operational issues when necessary.
Study Start-Up
- Support study start-up activities from site selection through Site Initiation Visits (SIVs).
- Monitor and help resolve study start-up challenges to ensure timely site activation.
- Participate in Site Initiation Visits and follow up on outstanding action items with study sites and CRO partners.
- Support investigator meetings and study start-up activities as required.
Enrollment & Study Conduct
- Support patient recruitment and site engagement strategies to improve enrollment performance.
- Partner closely with CRO teams and investigative sites throughout study execution.
- Coordinate or participate in site engagement and booster visits.
- Maintain study-specific trackers and monitor site performance throughout the study lifecycle.
- Build and maintain regular communication with priority investigative sites.
Site Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain long-term relationships with investigators, study coordinators, and research sites.
- Act as a trusted resource by providing operational guidance, sharing best practices, and helping sites overcome operational challenges.
- Support initiatives that improve the overall study site experience and long-term collaboration.
Study Leadership
- Contribute to the development and execution of study-specific site engagement strategies.
- Participate in study team meetings and provide regional updates on site engagement activities.
- Support global and regional investigator meetings, kick-off meetings, and other study-related initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
External Engagement
- Represent the organization at scientific conferences, investigator meetings, congresses, and other site-facing events.
- Establish relationships with new investigators and research sites to support future clinical development programs.
- Promote awareness of clinical research initiatives and strengthen the organization's research network.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing, or a related scientific discipline; advanced degree preferred.
- Significant experience supporting global or regional clinical trials within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CRO industry.
- Strong understanding of clinical trial operations, including feasibility, site start-up, enrollment,
and study conduct.
- Experience working with investigative sites, Clinical Research Organizations (CROs), and cross-functional study teams.
- Knowledge of ICH-GCP guidelines, clinical research regulations, and clinical trial processes.
- Excellent project management, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build long-term relationships with investigators and research sites.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple studies and priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other clinical trial management tools.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting global, regional, or multicountry clinical studies.
- Strong understanding of patient recruitment and retention strategies.
- Experience participating in investigator meetings, site engagement initiatives, and scientific conferences.
- Ability to work independently within a fast-paced, matrixed organization while collaborating effectively across functions.
