Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in food preparation, cooking, and food handling within a restaurant or food service workplace. As a Sushi Chef, you will be responsible for creating high-quality sushi dishes, maintaining food safety standards, and delivering exceptional dining experiences to our guests. Job Duties
- Prepare a variety of sushi dishes including nigiri, sashimi, maki rolls, specialty rolls, and other traditional Japanese cuisine.
- Select and prepare raw fish and seafood, ensuring proper handling, cutting techniques, and food safety standards.
- Maintain high standards for presentation, portion control, and freshness of ingredients.
- Prepare sushi rice following traditional preparation methods and seasoning standards.
- Develop and prepare specialty sushi menu items and seasonal offerings.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and kitchen hygiene regulations.
- Monitor inventory of fish, seafood, and sushi ingredients and report shortages.
- Train and supervise junior kitchen staff in sushi preparation techniques when required.
- Maintain a clean and organized sushi preparation station.
Requirements
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience preparing sushi in a commercial kitchen.
- Experience handling and preparing raw fish and seafood for sushi and sashimi.
- Knowledge of Japanese cuisine techniques and sushi preparation methods.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
- Prepare and assemble sushi dishes with precision and artistry, ensuring consistency and presentation quality
- Handle all aspects of food preparation, including slicing fish, preparing rice, and assembling ingredients according to recipes and standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi station in compliance with food safety regulations
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and communicate needs for replenishment
- Ensure all food handling practices meet health and safety standards
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to coordinate meal preparation and service times
- Assist in menu development by suggesting new sushi creations and presentation techniques
Experience
- Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or in a similar role within a restaurant or food industry setting
- Strong background in serving, food preparation, cooking, and meal presentation
- Knowledge of food safety protocols and proper food handling procedures
- Experience with kitchen equipment used for sushi preparation is preferred
- Familiarity with the standards of the food service industry, including maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards
- Previous restaurant experience demonstrating proficiency in food industry practices is highly desirable

Pay: $38.40 per hour
