Cultural Resource Worker

Full Time

The Biidaaban Healing Lodge is a 12-unit residential treatment program located on the Biigtigong Nishnaabeg formerly Pic River First Nation, which is approximately 25 KM from Marathon, On.

We are mandated to provide quality treatment to all indigenous and Metis people residing in Robinson Superior Treaty area. We provide treatment for unresolved trauma stemming from sexual abuse, family violence, adult children of trauma, grief and abandonment and anger solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Working as a team member within the Healing Lodge and in conjunction with the First Nation communities in the area and under the direction of the Executive Director, the cultural resource worker is responsible for:

- To be an ongoing cultural resource to individuals, families and communities accessing our services in a way that respects their individuality and beliefs.
- To assess the cultural needs of the organization and to recommend change based on their evaluation.
- To identify promotional strategies aimed at publicizing the Biidaaban Healing Lodge programs at community level using various computer programs
- To deliver non-residential programs in conjunction with Biidaaban Healing Lodge staff as needed and required.
- To conduct ceremonies as needed and required by the organization and have a robust understanding of the meanings behind the meanings of their ceremonies.

Qualifications:





- The successful applicant will have training/apprenticeship from acknowledged and respected Elders, Traditional Teachers have ability to perform numerous ceremonial functions i.e. sweat lodge, healing sweats, song, etc.
- Be thoroughly familiar with relevant ceremonies and traditional best practices and holistic approaches to healing.
- Minimum 5 years related experience working with indigenous individuals, families and communities with an understanding of and knowledge of healing
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of, and personal commitment to the Indigenous way of life with ongoing involvement with culture and traditions.

(combination of education / work and life experience will be considered)

- An individual with understanding, practice and sharing of the culture, traditions, ceremonies, history, principles and values considered an asset.
- Fluency in language is considered an asset.
- Some formal education in the human services field would be considered a definite asset.
- Able to provide a clear C-Pic for vulnerable sector.
- A class “G” driver’s licence and reliable transportation

Salary: Wages will be negotiated commensurate with experience.
