Job Description

Wide Open Slashing is hiring a Junior Heavy Duty Mechanic to support our growing forestry and vegetation management operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an apprentice or early-career mechanic looking to build hands-on experience and grow into a senior role over the next 1–2 years.

This position is primarily shop-based, with occasional field service work using a company-provided service truck. You will work closely with our experienced lead mechanic, receiving on-the-job training and mentorship to develop your skills across a specialized fleet.

You will assist in maintaining and repairing forestry equipment, with a solid focus on CMI mulchers, as well as skidders, excavators, and dozers.

What You’ll Do

- Assist with diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections
- Support service and repair of:
- CMI mulchers
- Skidders
- Excavators
- Dozers
- Participate in field service calls and on-site repairs as needed
- Maintain accurate service logs and reports
- Learn and follow safe, efficient work practices

What We’re Looking For





- Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic or 1–3 years of relevant experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Experience with forestry or heavy equipment (asset, not required)
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to work both in the shop and occasionally in field conditions
- Reliable, self-motivated, and interested in long-term growth

Compensation & Benefits

- $55+ (based on experience and apprenticeship level)
- Company service truck provided for field work
- LOA (Living Out Allowance) provided for field work and out-of-town jobs

Schedule

- 8–12 hour shifts
- Monday to Friday (occasional weekend work as required)
- Shop-based with some travel to job sites

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From $55.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
