About Home & Haven Supported Living
Home & Haven Supported Living (HHSL) is a family-owned residential care provider dedicated to supporting children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities, autism, dual diagnosis, mental health needs, and complex behavioural challenges. We provide protected, trauma-informed, person-centred care in a structured home environment where residents can build independence while receiving the support they need.
We are currently seeking compassionate, confident, and reliable Residential Counsellors, Child & Youth Workers, and Mental Health Workers to join our growing team.
Position Summary
As a Residential Counsellor, you will provide direct care and therapeutic support to residents with complex behavioural, developmental, and mental health needs. Working alongside an interdisciplinary team, you will help implement individualized support plans, promote independence, ensure resident safety, and create a positive, supportive home environment.
This position requires individuals who are calm under pressure, able to de-escalate crises effectively, and comfortable working with individuals who may display aggressive or self-injurious behaviours.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support and supervision to residents in a residential setting.
- Develop positive therapeutic relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Implement individualized care plans, behaviour support plans, and safety plans.
- Administer medications in accordance with HHSL policies and physician orders.
- Complete daily documentation, shift notes, medication records (MARs),
incident reports, and behavioural observations.
- Support residents with personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, life skills, recreation, and community outings.
- Utilize trauma-informed, person-centred, and strength-based approaches in all interactions.
- Communicate effectively with families, clinicians, placement agencies, and community partners.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming home environment.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing professional development.
Crisis Intervention
Our residents may experience behavioural or mental health crises, including self-injurious behaviours.
Successful candidates must be comfortable implementing approved crisis intervention techniques and understand that physical interventions are used only as a last resort when necessary to prevent imminent harm to the resident or others, and only in accordance with legislation, agency policy, and approved training (e.g. UMAB, NVCI).
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in one of the following:
- Child & Youth Care
- Social Service Worker
- Developmental Service Worker
- Psychology
- Social Work
- Mental Health & Addictions
- Human Services
- or a related field
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, mental health, or dual diagnosis is considered a strong asset.
- Experience working in residential care, foster care, group homes, hospitals, or community settings preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check (or ability to obtain one)
- Broad Record Check (where applicable)
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR (Level C/AED)
- Valid G Class Driver's Licence
- Reliable vehicle with proof of insurance
- Medication Administration experience (or willingness to be trained)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
- Trauma-Informed Care
- Mental Health First Aid
- Safe Management (asset)
