Role Summary:

The General Labourer provides essential support to the production team by maintaining a clean, safe, and organized shop floor. Primary duties include material handling, part preparation, and general housekeeping to ensure efficient manufacturing flow. This entry-level position is often a starting point for individuals seeking to gain experience in the precision machining industry and pursue future trade apprenticeships.

Key Responsibilities:

- Maintain shop cleanliness by consistently sweeping floors and clearing metal chips, shavings, and debris from work areas.
- Collect and dispose of shop waste and garbage according to facility protocols.
- Clean and prep precision metal parts or gearboxes for subsequent processes such as sandblasting, painting, or assembly.
- Perform basic deburring of manufactured components to remove sharp edges and burrs.
- Assist in the safe movement, flipping, and rigging of heavy materials and components using overhead cranes and forklifts (as applicable and if certified).
- Help organize and prepare tooling, materials, and workstations to assist machinists in meeting production schedules.
- Participate in basic equipment maintenance and cleaning tasks during machine downtime windows.
- Scan and record material or job movements using the company's digital ERP system to ensure accurate production tracking (as applicable).
- Perform general facility maintenance tasks, such as snow clearing or groundskeeping (as applicable).

Required Certifications & Education:

- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
- WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)



certification.
- Current certification for Overhead Crane and Forklift operation is a significant asset.

Technical Skills & Competencies:

- Basic Mechanical Aptitude: A fundamental understanding of how tools and mechanical systems function.
- Digital Literacy: Ability to use basic computer software and handheld scanners for data entry.
- Spatial Awareness: High degree of awareness when navigating around moving heavy machinery and working in tight industrial spaces.
- Basic Mathematics: Ability to count parts and perform simple measurements accurately.

Physical & Environmental Demands:

- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing at least 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Standing, walking, and performing physical tasks for the duration of a full shift.
- Physical mobility required for climbing around machinery and working in demanding positions.
- Exposure to industrial shop conditions, including loud noise, machine oils, lubricants, fumes, and temperature fluctuations (heat and cold).

Pay: $18.00-$23.00 per hour
