BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment is seeking a temporary, part-time (0.13 FTE) Faculty, Ecological Restoration to teach Fire and Ecosystem Management *RENR 8105) in the Fall 2026 Term (which entails one 2-hour course per week for 15 weeks).

The ER BSc is a 2-year degree completion program (years 3 and 4). The program provides graduates with a world-class foundation in the fundamental science, applied knowledge, and technical skills needed to successfully manage degraded ecosystems. Students work with our many professional partners on a wide range of applied projects, thereby gaining experience in addressing many current environmental challenges. Graduates have an excellent track record of securing positions with consulting companies, nonprofit organizations, as well as all levels of government including First Nations.

Duties & Responsibilities

General responsibilities will include all aspects related to teaching this course, including delivering lectures, facilitating applied learning, assessing student work, and mentoring students. The successful candidate will be provided course materials, which can be modified to suit the candidate’s strengths/experience. Other responsibilities will be based on the strengths of the successful candidate and the needs of the program. Experience planning, implementing, or monitoring (the effects of) fire as a tool in ecological restoration is a very strong advantage.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Minimum of BSc in ecology, environmental science, geography, or a related field.
- Demonstrated proficiency in fire ecology and management including recent field and/or operational experience planning, implementing, or monitoring (the effects of) fire as a tool in ecosystem management including but not limited to objectives relating to non-timber values such as wildlife habitat, cultural values, ecosystem processes, carbon, or climate change.




- Knowledge of best practices for teaching, advising, and mentoring students in a higher education environment.
- Willingness and ability to learn and use online learning tools (i.e., BCIT’s Learning Hub).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in both an independent capacity as well as part of a collegial team.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, which are needed to effectively manage the dynamic conditions and logistics associated with our applied programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Graduate credential in ecology, environmental science, geography, or a related field.
- Strong preference for a demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the post-secondary level in both classroom and field settings.
- Experience teaching and/or working with First Nations.
- Knowledge of and experience with the ecosystems of British Columbia and principles of environmental management.

Salary Range

Salary Range: $69,006 - $120,460 per annum

Additional Salary Information

Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
