As an experienced conditioning swim coach within Recreation and Social Programs or Parks and Open Spaces, you will teach a variety of fitness programs. Instructors are responsible for planning and leading registered and/or drop-in fitness programs. Primary duties include:
- Teach specific skills to participants through progressive physical fitness development and sharing of knowledge.
- Plan and implement quality fitness programs.
- Assess participant needs and provide adaptations as necessary.
- Prepare and maintain equipment, supplies and program space.
- Ensure safety of participants.
- Maintain program records and assist with program evaluation.
- Maintain high degree of customer service.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- The successful applicant for the conditioning swim coach must possess one of the following combinations of training and experience.
- Swim Instructor Certification with competitive swimming background and coaching experience.
- Solid communication skills along with demonstrated initiatives, planning and organization skills.
- Sound judgment in safety standards and well-developed customer service skills.
Pre-employment Requirements
- Current Intermediate First Aid certification (equivalent to Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level 'C', and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is required.
- CPR must be renewed every two years.
- A valid Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Search must be provided. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
- Applicants may be contacted, interviewed, and hired throughout the duration of this competition.
Position and Pay Information
- Union: Non-Union / Code 86
- Position Type: 3 On-Call
- Compensation: Instructor Level 1: $27.27 - $33.57 per hour; Instructor Level 2: $31.47 - $41.96 per hour
- Hours of work: This position works on-call hours based on operational requirements

- Days of Work: This position typically works various days including daytime, evenings, and weekends.
