Stepping Stones Group Care is seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated Relief Child & Youth Care Workers to join our residential care team. We provide a safe, structured, and supportive home for children and youth who have experienced trauma, family disruption, and other life challenges.

Position Type

- Casual / Relief (On-Call)
- Day, Evening, Overnight, Weekend, and Holiday shifts available
- Opportunity for additional hours based on operational needs

Responsibilities

As a Relief Child & Youth Care Worker, you will:

- Provide direct care, supervision, and support to children and youth in a residential setting.
- Foster positive relationships built on trust, respect, and consistency.
- Promote a safe, nurturing, and structured home environment.
- Assist youth with daily routines, personal care, life skills, homework, and recreational activities.
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using trauma-informed and strength-based approaches.
- Prepare meals, complete household duties, and maintain a clean living environment.
- Administer medications in accordance with agency policies (where applicable).
- Complete daily documentation, incident reports, and shift notes accurately and professionally.
- Safely transport youth to school, appointments, family visits, and community activities when required.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, caregivers, and community partners to support individualized care plans.

Qualifications

- Diploma or Degree in Child and Youth Care,



Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field is preferred.
- Equivalent education and relevant experience working with children and youth will also be considered.
- Experience working with children or youth affected by trauma, mental health, behavioural challenges, or developmental disabilities is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in crisis situations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

Applicants must have or be willing to obtain:

- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Clean Driver's Abstract
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Child Intervention Record Check
- Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or equivalent (an asset)
- Suicide Intervention training (ASIST or safeTALK is an asset)
