Murphy's is seeking an enthusiastic, safety-focused Adventure Tour Captain to operate our new 23-foot RHIB on guided boat tours through the spectacular 100 Wild Islands.

This is more than a boat-driving job. As the captain, you'll be the face of every tour—welcoming guests, sharing local stories, ensuring their safety, and creating experiences they'll remember for a lifetime.

Our tours showcase one of Canada's most remarkable coastal environments, and we're looking for someone who takes pride in delivering exceptional service while maintaining the highest standards of seamanship and professionalism. You'll work alongside Ryan, owner of the business, as you develop your experience.

About Us

Murphy's Camping is a third-generation, family-owned outdoor hospitality business located on Nova Scotia's beautiful Eastern Shore.

For more than 65 years, we've welcomed guests from around the world to experience camping, glamping, kayaking, boating, and the incredible Wild Islands archipelago.

Our mission is:

To provide an unforgettable camping experience by creating a friendly and hospitable atmosphere with untethered access to the 100 Wild Islands.

Your Responsibilities

As Adventure Tour Captain, you'll be responsible for both the vessel, guest safety, and the guest experience.

Your duties may include:

- Safely operating our 23-foot RHIB during scheduled tours and island drop-offs
- Conducting passenger safety briefings before departure

- Providing engaging narration about the area's wildlife, history, geology, fishing heritage, and local culture
- Delivering exceptional customer service before, during, and after every tour
- Monitoring weather, sea conditions, tides, and route planning
- Performing pre-departure and post-trip vessel inspections
- Maintaining the vessel in clean, tour-ready condition
- Completing voyage logs and operational records
- Assisting guests with boarding and disembarking
- Supporting kayak rentals and marina operations when not on tours
- Assisting with general guest services as needed

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who combines excellent boat handling with outstanding people skills.

Required:

- Valid Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)
- Marine Emergency Duties (MED A3 or equivalent)
- ROC(M) Marine Radio Operator Certificate
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR
- Pleasure Craft experience in near coastal waters
- Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Legally entitled to work in Canada

Preferred:

- Previous passenger vessel or charter experience
- Experience operating RHIBs or other high-performance vessels
- Knowledge of the Eastern Shore and Wild Islands
- Interpretation or tour guiding experience
- Mechanical aptitude and basic marine maintenance knowledge
- Tourism or hospitality experience

Who You Are

You're someone who stays calm under pressure,

communicates clearly, and enjoys meeting people from all over the world.

You understand that safety always comes first—but you also know that the best captains leave guests smiling long after they've returned to the dock.

You are:

- Qualified and dependable
- Friendly and personable
- Confident operating in changing marine conditions
- An excellent communicator
- Comfortable speaking to groups
- Passionate about Nova Scotia's coast
- Proud to represent a locally owned business

Why Join Us?

- Operate a modern 23-foot RHIB in one of Canada's most beautiful coastal regions

- Meet visitors from around the world
- Help build an exciting and growing adventure tourism business
- Work alongside a supportive family-owned team
- Competitive seasonal compensation based on experience
- Opportunities for additional hours through guest services and marina operations
