Retail Grocery Buyer

Job Summary

The Retail Grocery Buyer is responsible for selecting, purchasing, and managing grocery products to meet customer demand, sales goals, and margin targets. This role involves vendor negotiations, inventory management, market analysis, and collaboration with merchandising, operations, and marketing teams to ensure a competitive, well-stocked assortment.

Key Responsibilities:

- Source, select, and purchase grocery products in alignment with company strategy and customer preferences

- Negotiate pricing, terms, promotions, and delivery schedules with suppliers and distributors

- Analyze sales data, market trends, and customer insights to optimize product assortment and pricing

- Manage inventory levels to maximize availability while minimizing waste, shrink, and excess stock

- Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships and evaluate supplier performance

- Plan and execute promotions, seasonal assortments, and new product launches

- Monitor product quality, compliance, and food safety standards

- Collaborate with merchandising, marketing, and store operations teams to support sales initiatives

- Track key performance indicators (sales, margin, turns, shrink) and prepare regular reports

- Stay informed on industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging products

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Business,



Supply Chain, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

- 5+ years of experience in retail buying, grocery merchandising, or category management

- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills

- Proficiency in data analysis, forecasting, and inventory planning

- Experience working with purchasing systems, ERP, or retail management software

- Excellent communication and organizational skills

- Ability to manage multiple categories and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills

- Experience in grocery, food retail, or CPG environments

- Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality standards

- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail

- Ability to balance customer needs with financial goals

Working Conditions

- Office-based with regular collaboration across departments

- Store floor

- Occasional travel to suppliers, trade shows, or distribution centers may be required
