About Us

First Peoples Wellness Circle (FPWC) is an Indigenous-led national not-for-profit dedicated to enhancing the lives of First Peoples in Canada by addressing healing, wellness, and mental wellness barriers. The organization’s purpose is to walk with and support First Peoples and communities to share collective intelligence for healing, peace-making, and living a valuable life. FPWC’s approach is centred on promoting wellness pathways based on traditional knowledge and culture that supports healing and wellness and fosters a two-eyed seeing approach. FPWC envisions a nation where our First Peoples experience wholistic health and wellness by championing diverse cultural values, beliefs, and practices.

FPWC’s new strategic plan encompasses four main objectives: Growth, The Framework, Relationships, and Collective Intelligence. Through these objectives, we seek to build relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations and build workforce capacity by sharing collective intelligence and implementing the First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum Framework. The FPWC works diligently to advocate for transformative change, aiming to create wellness and whole health pathways for Canada’s First Peoples shaped by diverse Indigenous cultural lenses and knowledge.

Position Summary

We are currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Community Engagement Coordinator. This is a 21 month term, full-time (37.5 hours per week), fully remote position from July 2026 to March 2028. There is a possibility of extension, pending funding. Our head office is located in North Bay, Ontario and individuals from Ontario may be given preference.

Under the direction and supervision of the Special Projects Program Manager, the Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for designing and supporting training initiatives focused on Indigenous student wellness, including the development and expansion of toolkits and school-based professional learning. This role builds and maintains strong, respectful relationships with communities, schools, and partners, establishing agreements and collaborative processes that honour Indigenous knowledge and leadership.



The Community Engagement Coordinator also engages directly with school personnel and mental-health professionals to understand their needs, gather insights, and identify how training and resources can best support their work with Indigenous students, ensuring that implementation efforts reflect both community priorities and school-identified needs.

Key Responsibilities

● Engage with school communities in provincial and First Nation settings, mental health leads and Indigenous grad coaches and/or related personnel

● Work with subject matter experts to scope, design and develop new and engaging content related to Indigenous student mental wellness that apply adult learning principles and reflect appreciation of diverse audiences and school-based delivery settings.

● Participate in project consultation with internal and external stakeholders to analyze and identify learning needs to customize existing training materials for participating school personnel.

● Review and modify existing school mental wellness resources for support educators and school-based professionals to best meet the unique needs of First Nation, Inuit and Metis students.

● Provide advice on concepts, delivery modalities, and instructional design as required for project resources.

● Work alongside a team to support the design and implementation of two (2) RISE forums supporting First Nation, Inuit and Metis students

Skills & Competencies

● Knowledge of and ability to work in a manner respectful of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis cultures, values, and beliefs.

● Highly skilled in working with Indigenous youth in community, schools, or youth-serving environments.

● Strong knowledge of Indigenous mental wellness concepts and practices.

● Ability to develop relationships to liaise and work effectively with school and Indigenous community partners or stakeholders, and colleagues.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills with skills in writing, proofreading and editing.





● Excellent interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and conflict-resolution skills.

● Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.

● High level of professionalism.

● Understanding and integration of Two-Eyed seeing and strengths-based approaches.

● Strong working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, Creative Cloud and project management tools.

● Excellent time management, organizational and administrative skills.

● Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining efficiency and accuracy.

● Knowledge or use of an Indigenous language and/or bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset.

● Ability to work flexible hours and willing to travel.

● This position is fully remote, work from home role

● Access to reliable internet, and private office space to work is required

Qualifications

● Post-secondary degree or diploma in Education, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Community Development, Health Promotion, or a related field.

● Two (2) or more years working in school mental health and/or in Indigenous education.

● Two (2) or more years working in or alongside First Nation communities.

● Experience working with multiple partners and stakeholders.
