Location
These positions are located at either Westney Division in Ajax, Ontario or Raleigh Division in Oshawa, Ontario (based on business needs).
These are full time positions and will consist of evening, midnight and weekend shifts.
Mechanic
Reporting to the Manager, Fleet Maintenance, the incumbent will:
- Inspect, repair and certify the fleet of vehicles, including buses, automobiles, small engines and other heavy and light duty equipment complying with DRT Policies and MTO legislated standards
- Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance
- Diagnose and repair defects arising from inspections and operating complaints
- Repair equipment or other property outside of the garage area, as required
- Modify and repair defects that develop in equipment
- Operate equipment as required
- Perform various duties related to winter time operations and activities
- Be prepared to undertake job related training from time to time
- Perform other duties as required The successful applicant will possess:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- A valid 310T Mechanic's Licence issued by the Province of Ontario
- A valid 310S would be an asset
- Ability to obtain a Class 'C' licence with 'Z' endorsement with a clean driving abstract
- Several years of experience in the repair and maintenance of transit vehicles and equipment
- Working knowledge of solenoid controls, electrical circuits, and equipment controls
- Experience with hydraulic systems and repairs
- Working knowledge of computer based diagnosis conversance and ability to communicate and report diagnosis and repairs
- Culturally aware and empathetic communication skills
- Valuable attendance record and demonstrated reliability
- Ability to work shifts as required including nights and weekends
Mechanic Salary Information
- This position will be paid $48.87 per hour. This position will also receive a skilled trade premium equal to one dollar ($1) per hour worked.
