Role Description The AI Operations Strategist is a part time, remote role responsible for designing, overseeing, and optimizing AI-driven workflows across Indigenous Energy Monitor’s data and research operations. In this role, the strategist evaluates current processes, identifies opportunities where AI tools can improve efficiency and insight quality, and implements scalable solutions in collaboration with data, research, and advisory teams. Day-to-day tasks include configuring and monitoring AI models, building and refining operational frameworks, documenting best practices, and ensuring ethical and responsible AI use aligned with the organization’s mission and Indigenous data sovereignty principles.

The strategist will also analyze performance metrics, recommend improvements,



and support training and change management for team members adopting AI-supported processes.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in AI, machine learning, or data science, with experience designing and operating AI workflows and tools.
- Skills in process design, operations strategy, and workflow optimization, including the ability to map and improve complex data and research processes.
- Competence with data management and analytics tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL, BI platforms) and familiarity with integrating AI into data pipelines.
- Understanding of ethical AI practices, data governance, and privacy, ideally including awareness of Indigenous data sovereignty and community-centered approaches.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into accessible guidance for non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating in cross-functional, remote teams, with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a part-time capacity.
- Relevant education such as a degree or diploma in data science, computer science, engineering, public policy, business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Background or demonstrated interest in the energy and resource sectors, Indigenous economic participation, or impact-focused research is an asset.
