Associate Professor - School of Health Sciences (South-Eastern Sydney Local Health District Collaboration) Work type: Full Time

Remuneration: Academic Level D $193,354 + 17% super+ annual leave loading

Position Summary The Associate Professor (Level D) will provide academic and research leadership within the School of Health Sciences, with a strong focus on advancing allied health research, education, and clinical translation. The role will contribute to the delivery and development of research teaching across a range of health professional disciplines, including Nutrition and Dietetics, Pharmacy, Exercise Science and Exercise Physiology, and Physiotherapy. The position will support student learning through high-quality teaching, curriculum development, research supervision, and the coordination of research-focused learning experiences.

A key aspect of the role is the development and leadership of cooperative research initiatives with South-Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). An honorary allied health appointment with SESLHD will foster relationships and facilitate development of a strong research partnership across organisations.

The Associate

Professor will lead the growth of applied and translational research programs that align with health service priorities, support clinician-researcher development, and strengthen allied health research capability across both the University and health service sectors. The role will also contribute to the translation and implementation of evidence into clinical practice.



The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a strong and nationally recognised research profile, including success in attracting competitive research funding, publishing impactful research, and leading interdisciplinary collaborations.

They will mentor higher degree research students, postdoctoral fellows, early-career academics, and clinicians, while fostering a strong research culture and supporting sustainable research partnerships between UNSW and SESLHD. As a senior academic within the School, the Associate Professor will contribute to leadership and governance activities across the School, Faculty, and University. The role requires collaboration with academic, clinical, and external stakeholders to advance teaching excellence, research impact, and strategic partnerships in allied health and health services research.

Some Key Skills Required A PhD in an allied health discipline (preference may be given to applicants with health science disciplines of dietetics, pharmacy, exercise physiology or physiotherapy).

Registration with AHPRA or accreditation with the relevant professional association.

Significant track record in research leadership with outcomes of high quality and high national/international impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence and deliver research leadership.

Experience in supervision of student research projects at a pre-entry (registration or accreditation) level.

Significant experience in teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical approaches and technologies, development and delivery of courses and programs,



at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.

Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence and fostering this in others.

Experience in collaborative research projects between health services/industry and university settings, including leadership in building engagement and partnerships with the profession and industry.

Evidence of professional development of teaching practice in self and others with the ability to advance and lead an inclusive culture of excellence in learning and teaching.
