Volunteer Opportunity:
1:1 Community-Based MentorOrganization: Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and AreaLocation: London, Ontario and surrounding areaCommitment: 2–4 hours, twice per month | Minimum 12 monthsBig Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area is seeking caring, committed volunteers to become 1:1 Community-Based Mentors for children and youth ages 7–18. This is our traditional mentoring program, designed to match young people who have faced adversity with a positive adult role model who can provide encouragement, stability, and friendship.As a mentor, you’ll spend time building a meaningful relationship by sharing experiences, exploring the community, trying current activities, and simply having fun together. Your consistency and presence can help build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging in a young person’s life.
What You’ll Do
- Meet with your mentee twice per month for 2–4 hours per visit
- Commit to the match for a minimum of one year (12 consecutive months) from time of matching
- Engage in fun, low-cost community activities or spend time together in everyday settings
- Provide positive guidance, encouragement, and support
Requirements
- Must live in London,
Ontario or the surrounding area for the duration of the match
- Commit to consistent meetings for one full year
- While owning a vehicle is not required, mentors are responsible for arranging transportation for their mentee from their home to the activity and back
Please note: If you are a student who leaves London during the summer months or are unable to commit year-round, we encourage you to consider our In-School Mentoring Program, which may be a better fit for your schedule.
