Location: Toronto, Ontario (with travel within the Greater Toronto Area)

Job Type: Full time, Permanent

Salary: $80,000 – $90,000 CAD per year (commensurate with experience)

The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician is responsible for the installation, startup, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and ongoing support of Building Automation Systems across residential, commercial, and multi-residential buildings.

The successful candidate will work closely with BAS Engineers, Project Managers, Electricians, and Field Technicians to install, commission, and maintain Building Automation Systems while ensuring reliable operation and exceptional service for clients.

Key Responsibilities

· Install and commission Building Automation Systems (BAS).

· Install BAS controllers, sensors, actuators, thermostats, VFD interfaces, and communication devices.

· Assist with controller programming, graphics development, and point-to-point verification.

· Perform startup, testing, and commissioning of BAS installations.

· Troubleshoot BAS hardware, controllers, field devices, and communication networks.

· Diagnose and repair control system issues.

· Perform routine maintenance and preventative service on BAS equipment.

· Calibrate sensors and other field devices.

· Verify the proper operation of HVAC equipment connected to the BAS.

· Assist with integrating third-party equipment, including:

o Boilers o Chillers o Cooling Towers o Heat Pumps o Fan Coil Units o Make-Up Air Units (MAUs)

o Pumps o Domestic Hot Water Systems o Exhaust and Supply Fans o Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)





o Lighting Control Systems

· Assist with integrating equipment using BACnet, Modbus, and IP networks.

· Perform point-to-point testing and verify all control points.

· Respond to service calls and emergency breakdowns.

· Analyze system alarms and identify faults.

· Assist with energy optimization and overall system performance improvements.

· Maintain accurate service reports, commissioning reports, and as-built documentation.

· Support remote monitoring systems and assist in resolving customer issues.

· Follow all company safety procedures and applicable industry standards.

· Provide technical support to customers during commissioning and service visits.

Qualifications

· Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, HVAC Technology, Controls Engineering, or a related field.

· Minimum of 3 years of experience with Building Automation Systems.

· Strong understanding of HVAC equipment and mechanical building systems.

· Experience installing, commissioning, and servicing BAS systems.

· Experience troubleshooting HVAC control systems.

· Working knowledge of Niagara Framework (N4) and Noah Controls is considered an asset.





· Experience with BACnet, Modbus, and IP networking.

· Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control sequences.

· Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.

· Excellent communication and customer service skills.

· Valid Ontario driver's license.

Preferred Experience

· Experience working in condominium and multi-residential buildings.

· Experience servicing boilers, chillers, cooling towers, heat pumps, make-up air units (MAUs), fan coil units, domestic hot water systems, pumps, variable frequency drives (VFDs), exhaust and supply fans, pressure control systems, and other central mechanical equipment.

· Familiarity with cloud-based remote monitoring platforms.

· Knowledge of networking, routers, switches, and VPN connections.

· Experience with energy optimization and recommissioning projects.

· Ability to use testing equipment such as multimeters, network analyzers, and calibration tools.

· Installing BAS hardware and field devices.

· Commissioning new BAS installations.

· Testing and verifying control sequences.

· Troubleshooting communication and equipment issues.

· Supporting energy optimization and system performance improvement initiatives.
