The location in Port Alberni, BC, is seeking talent to fill the position of Business Analyst. This job is permanent and full-time.

About The Role

The Business Analyst at Domtar will play a crucial role in supporting the financial health and operational efficiency of our Port Alberni mill. Reporting directly to the controller, this position is responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of financial information, including month-end reporting, cost analysis, and forecasting. The Business Analyst will serve as a key contributor to strategic planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring that financial insights drive informed decision-making across the manufacturing and corporate teams.

This role requires a proactive individual with strong analytical skills, leadership qualities, and the ability to communicate complex financial data effectively.

The Business

Analyst will collaborate closely with production, sales, and corporate finance teams to support new product development, cost management, and operational improvements. As part of their duties, they will develop a deep understanding of the mill’s cost structure, processes, and key performance indicators, contributing to the overall success and sustainability of the operation.

In addition,



the Business Analyst will support training and mentorship for new hires and less experienced team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development. This is a permanent, full-time position that offers an exciting opportunity to impact the financial and operational excellence of a leading organization in the pulp and paper industry.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess aBachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A CPA designation is considered an asset and will enhance candidacy. Candidates should have between 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, reporting, or a similar role within manufacturing or industrial settings. Demonstrated experience with financial forecasting, cost analysis, and strategic planning is essential.

Strong proficiency in financial software and tools, along with excellent communication and leadership skills, are required. The ability to interpret complex data, prepare detailed reports, and present findings clearly to diverse audiences is critical. Candidates must be detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities

- Perform month-end functions including production setting, furnish balancing, product cost allocations, grade costing, and product statement preparation and reporting.

- Prepare and report monthly latest view forecasts for the Port Alberni mill, including coordinating submissions to Corporate Finance in Richmond and Fort Mill.

- Conduct ad hoc financial analyses related to mill operations and product costing to support operational decision-making.





- Coordinate the annual budget process, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and operational realities.

- Contribute to strategic planning initiatives, focusing on grade mix, production settings, furnish balancing, and costing strategies.

- Support new product development efforts by collaborating with production and sales teams to evaluate costs and profitability.

- Assist in continuous improvement projects by working with mill and corporate teams to identify, record, and track initiatives aimed at operational efficiencies.

- Develop and prepare the annual operating plan for key manufacturing cost elements, including production setting, furnish balance, and grade costing.

- Provide support and training to new hires and less experienced finance staff, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable team environment.
