Job Title: Café Baker

Job Purpose

The Current is seeking a skilled and dependable Café Baker to prepare a variety of fresh baked goods for our student-owned and operated on-campus café. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality baked products, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, and ensuring all food is prepared, handled, and stored in accordance with food safety, sanitation, and public health standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Prepare and bake a variety of fresh products, including breads, muffins, cookies, squares, pastries, cakes, and seasonal specialties.
- Follow production schedules to ensure fresh products are available while minimizing waste.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen and baking area.
- Ensure all food is prepared, stored, labeled, and handled in accordance with food safety regulations and best practices.
- Adhere to all public health, sanitation, and workplace health and safety standards.
- Monitor inventory of baking ingredients and supplies and communicate restocking needs to management.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts of production items




- Assist in food production of breakfast items when needed.
- Operate and maintain baking equipment safely, reporting any maintenance issues as needed.
- Assist in developing new recipes and seasonal baked goods.
- Maintain consistent product quality, portioning, and presentation.
- Complete daily cleaning, opening, and closing duties as required.
- Work collaboratively with café staff to support smooth daily operations.

Qualifications

- Previous baking experience in a commercial bakery, café, or food service environment.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations, sanitation practices, and safe food handling procedures.
- Food Handler Certification.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to work in a team environment.
