Mayne Island Early Childhood Society is a volunteer-run, charitable, not-for-profit organization that supports and develops programs for families with young children on Mayne Island, B.C.

Employment Type: Part Time
Hours Per Week: 8-18
Working Hours: 8:30-6:00pm
Type of Child Care: Other: Infant Toddler, Group 3-5, and/or After School
Position Start: As soon as possible
Wages: $22 per hour to start; $24 for ECE-A Certificate holders
Title: Childcare Worker
Type of Child Care: We operate licensed infant/toddler (12 - 36 months); Group 2.5-6 year, and after school programs. The candidate may serve in either program depending on interests, needs and qualifications.

Qualifications
- Be at least 19 years of age.
- Willing to complete a course, or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition. ECE-A certification preferred.
- Clear criminal records check.
- Able to provide care and mature guidance to children.
- Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job
- Relevant life or work experience.

- Candidates must reside on Mayne Island, and must be willing to complete a training course to qualify for employment in a licensed childcare facility.
Required Experience: Some experience working with children required.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and implementing a full range of age and developmentally appropriate activities that are inclusive and stimulating for all children (includes fine and gross motor activities, free and imaginative play, and family circle time).
- Create and maintain a welcoming, emotionally safe, respectful and inclusive environment.
- Assist in carrying out routines/curriculum of the program.
- Ensure safety and overall well-being of all children in care.
- Establish positive relationships with families and their children.
- Assist with cleaning and tidying duties and maintaining appropriate health and safety standards in the playroom.
- Work with staff team to maintain appropriate supplies and resources for the playroom.
- Model positive adult-child interactions that promote intellectual, social and emotional development.
- Participate in the development and implementation of special events and programs as required.
- May be required to participate and support board driven community development initiatives.
- Participate in staff and team meetings and staff training sessions as required.
- Fulfill other duties as required.
Employment Terms
Part Time or Full time: Our programs run Monday-Thursday between 8:30-4:30 (5:30 for after school care). Preference will be given to applicants wanting at least 2 days of work per week, but all applicants are encouraged to apply.
