About the Role

StudioX News is hiring a Community Reporter to cover local stories that matter to readers in Surrey, the Lower Mainland, and across Canadian diaspora communities. This is a newsroom reporting role for someone who can produce original stories with accuracy, speed, and strong public interest value.

The reporter will cover immigration, housing, public safety, community events, cost of living, local government, and other issues affecting everyday residents. This role requires curiosity, strong writing, good judgment, and confidence speaking with people from many backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities

- Research, report, and write original news articles and explainers.
- Attend local events, press conferences, and community meetings.
- Interview sources and verify information using primary documents and credible sources.




- File clean copy on deadline and revise stories with editors.
- Capture basic photos and video when needed.
- Contribute to digital and multilingual news coverage.

Qualifications
- Robust written English and clear, accurate writing.
- Ability to work independently and meet daily deadlines.
- Comfort approaching people and conducting interviews.
- Reliable, organized, and professional under pressure.
- Fluent written and spoken English is required.

Assets
- Journalism, communications, or English education.
- Published writing samples or a portfolio.
- Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog, or Gujarati.
- Experience covering local news, community issues, or public affairs.

Notes This is the position where prior writing experience matters most. Strong writers from related fields will be considered.

Pay: $36,500.00-$82,663.77 per year
