Amazon Web Services (AWS) is hiring a Data Center Facility Manager to lead engineering operations at its data centre facilities in Airdrie, Alberta. This is a technically demanding leadership role overseeing the mechanical and electrical infrastructure of mission-critical data centres.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the data centre's critical physical infrastructure, maintaining high availability and performance
- Manage in office teams of 24x7 shift technicians, sub-contractors, and vendors ensuring work is performed per established procedures and safety protocols
- Drive safety and security culture and compliance within the team
- Hire, coach, and promote team members; manage career development and performance
- Effectively manage the operations budget and expenditures
- Engage in improvement projects from conception to completion
- Act as escalation point for all facilities-related issues including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems
- Utilize root cause analysis and troubleshooting/problem solving skills
- Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls
- Role may support more than one location/site
- May assist in the build out of new facilities and projects to increase current facility efficiency
Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of people management and team development experience
- 5+ years of engineering work managing large-scale services experience
- Experience maintaining SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting
- Experience operating a mission-critical team or productHigh school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years in a management position with 5 or more direct reports
- 5+ years of work in data centres with an emphasis on building and equipment operation
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems including feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
This position requires the candidate to obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.
2+ years of people management experience; 5+ years of engineering work managing large-scale services; experience maintaining SLAs; experience operating a mission-critical team; high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; 5+ years in data centre operations.
