About the Role Strategic leadership to develop and execute the organization’s cybersecurity strategy and roadmap. Provide strategic direction to align cybersecurity with organizational goals. Oversee governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks and act as the organization’s key cybersecurity advisor to the CIO, leadership team, and other stakeholders.
Develop and present updates to executive leadership and the Board on the state of cybersecurity. Lead cybersecurity council meetings and monitor regulatory changes to evolve the strategy as needed. Manage the relationship with the MSSP, oversee vendor relationships, and lead initiatives to protect systems, data, and assets.
Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Governance: develop and execute the cybersecurity strategy and roadmap; ensure alignment with organizational goals; oversee governance and risk management frameworks; provide executive updates.
Cybersecurity Program Oversight and Strategic Operations: incident commander for high-severity incidents; monitor, detect, and respond processes; establish and track cybersecurity metrics; manage the MSSP governance, SLAs, and KPIs; promote automation and innovation.
Security Tools and Policy: ensure effectiveness of security tools, processes, and technologies; develop and enforce policies, standards, and processes; oversee risk assessments and mitigation alignment with risk tolerance.
Third-Party Risk and Compliance: manage third-party relationships; develop a comprehensive third-party risk program; address audit findings and drive improvements; manage vendor compliance with SLAs.
Leadership Development:
mentor and develop the cybersecurity team; promote continuous improvement and security awareness; collaborate with IT and business leaders to integrate security into operations.
Regulatory and Compliance Management: stay current with regulatory requirements; oversee alignment with frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Controls; ensure PCI-DSS, GDPR, or Canadian regulations as applicable.
Budget and Procurement: manage the cybersecurity budget and procurement processes; act as primary security representative during RFPs.
About You (Qualifications) Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, cybersecurity, or equivalent experience.
Certifications: CISSP, CRISC, CISA, CISM or equivalent experience.
7+ years of progressive cybersecurity experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership or strategic oversight role.
Knowledge of cloud security (Azure, AWS) and vulnerability management.
Familiarity with frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Controls; knowledge of incident response processes.
Understanding of PCI-DSS, GDPR, or Canadian cybersecurity regulations; ability to manage audits and compliance.
Experience aligning MSSP operations with long-term cybersecurity goals; mentoring teams; managing incidents and risk assessments; overseeing vendor contracts and SLAs.
