Director of Finance Location: Mississauga, ON (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite, 2 Days Remote) Salary: $170,000–$190,000 (pro-rated for the 6-month contract) Job Type: 6-month contract Posting Type: Open Vacancy Our client, a well-established organization in Mississauga, is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to join their team on a 6-month contract. This opportunity is ideal for an independent finance consultant, fractional CFO or Director of Finance, or an experienced finance executive looking for a short-term engagement. The successful candidate will provide both strategic direction and hands‑on operational leadership during a period of transition, while supporting a growing finance and payroll function.
Provide strategic and operational leadership to the finance function, ensuring business continuity throughout the engagement. Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canadian accounting standards. Manage the external audit process and act as the primary liaison with external auditors.
Oversee all accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury and cash flow management, Payroll, Investments, and Pension accounting. Provide leadership and guidance to a developing payroll team, ensuring strong controls, compliance with legislative requirements, and payroll best practices. Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with Canadian GAAP, regulatory requirements,
organizational policies, and financial governance standards.
Evaluate and implement process improvements to increase efficiency across finance and payroll operations. Lead, mentor, and support the finance team while fostering collaboration, accountability, and high performance. Ensure continuity of finance operations while delivering practical leadership throughout the transition period.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance leadership experience, including senior management responsibilities. Demonstrated experience overseeing financial reporting, external audits, internal controls, treasury, payroll operations, investments, and pension accounting.
Experience supporting or mentoring payroll teams through process improvements, organizational change, or payroll transformation initiatives is highly desirable.
Experience within the not-for-profit sector is considered a robust asset. Exceptional leadership, communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills. Competitive compensation of $170,000–$190,000 (pro-rated for the contract).
Hybrid work model with 3 days onsite in Mississauga and 2 days working remotely. Opportunity to make an immediate impact during a key leadership transition.
