Job Summary

Little Mountain Neighbourhood House Society (LMNHS) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Early Childhood Educator (ECE) to join our team working with children 3 to 5 years of age in our licensed preschool child care program. Guided by the British Columbia Early Learning Framework (BC ELF) and inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, our program recognizes children as capable, competent, curious, and active participants in their own learning. We believe that meaningful relationships, play-based experiences, inquiry, and thoughtfully designed environments provide the foundation for children's growth and development. As an Early Childhood Educator, you will work collaboratively with a team of educators to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where children develop a strong sense of well-being, belonging, engagement, and expression. You will support children's social, emotional, physical, cognitive, creative, and cultural development through responsive interactions, intentional teaching, and reflective practice. Key Responsibilities

- Report to the ECE Program Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator (where applicable).
- Develop positive, respectful, and responsive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and community partners.
- Provide high-quality care and education in accordance with the Child Care Licensing Regulation and LMNHS policies and procedures.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate an emergent, play-based curriculum inspired by the BC Early Learning Framework and Reggio Emilia philosophy.
- Observe, document, and reflect on children's learning to support curriculum planning and individual development.
- Create inviting indoor and outdoor learning environments that encourage exploration, creativity, collaboration, and inquiry.




- Recognize the environment as the "third teacher" by maintaining engaging and developmentally appropriate learning spaces.
- Encourage children's independence, confidence, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Support children's social-emotional development using positive guidance and respectful interactions.
- Foster an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity, equity, and cultural responsiveness.
- Build collaborative partnerships with families through daily communication and respectful relationship-building.
- Assist in planning family engagement opportunities and program events.
- Maintain children's records, observations, and required documentation accurately and confidentially.
- Support daily routines including meals, snacks, toileting, rest periods, transitions, and self-help skills while promoting children's independence.
- Ensure children's health, safety, and well-being through active supervision and risk management.
- Maintain child-to-educator ratios at all times.
- Prepare and serve nutritious snacks following Food Safe and health regulations.
- Maintain clean, organized, and welcoming classrooms, including sanitizing toys, equipment, and learning materials.
- Assist with classroom set-up, organization, and end-of-day closing procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings, reflective practice discussions, professional development opportunities, and team planning sessions.Identify and report safety concerns, maintenance issues, or child protection concerns promptly to the Program Coordinator.
- Maintain current First Aid certification, Food Safe certification, and Criminal Record Check requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic ECE

Required Qualifications

- Valid British Columbia Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate.
- Current Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR Certificate.
- Current Food Protected Level 1 Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid Criminal Record Check completed through the Criminal Records Review Program.
- Minimum 19 years of age.
- Experience working with children ages 3 to 5 years in a licensed child care setting.




- Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practice.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience implementing the British Columbia Early Learning Framework.
- Knowledge of or experience with Reggio Emilia-inspired practices.
- Experience with pedagogical documentation and reflective practice.
- Additional language(s) and experience working in culturally diverse communities are considered assets.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence is considered an asset.

Salary & Benefits

Wage: Starting at $23.80 per hour, plus the $6.00 per hour ECE Wage Enhancement (for eligible certified ECEs).
