Position Summary The Environmental Field Technician is responsible for supporting environmental stewardship, monitoring, research, and community engagement initiatives undertaken by Caldwell First Nation's Environment Department (ENVD). The role combines hands-on fieldwork with project administration and data management activities to support ENVD programs and projects throughout Caldwell First Nation's Traditional Territory.

The Environmental Field Technician works under the direction of the Environmental Project Coordinator and collaborates with ENVD staff to assist with environmental monitoring, sample collection, field data gathering, community engagement activities, and project documentation. The position provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in environmental stewardship, ecosystem restoration, research, and project delivery while supporting Caldwell First Nation's environmental priorities.

Key Responsibilities

- The Environmental Field Technician assists with environmental field activities, including site visits, research and monitoring, data collection, drone surveys, and stewardship and conservation initiatives.
- The role prepares and maintains field equipment, supplies, and project resources, and assists with the collection, handling, labeling, transportation, and documentation of environmental samples (e.g., soil, water, sediment, vegetation) following established protocols and procedures.
- The role supports project administration activities, including data entry, file management, records maintenance, photo organization, research support, and documentation of field activities. This also includes support tasks assisting the Environmental Project Coordinator in project planning, logistics, scheduling, reporting, basic data analysis, and day-to-day project activities.
- The role maintains accurate records and datasets, including field notes, sample logs, photographs, maps, tracking documents, and project files to support reporting, analysis, and long-term record retention.





- The role supports community engagement activities, educational initiatives, workshops, events, and stewardship programs by assisting with planning, coordination, and delivery.
- The role works respectfully with community members, Knowledge Keepers, project partners, consultants, and stakeholders while representing Caldwell First Nation in a professional manner.
- The role follows all applicable health and safety requirements, environmental protocols, organizational policies, and confidentiality obligations.

- The Environmental Field Technician participates in training opportunities related to environmental monitoring, field methods, laboratory procedures, equipment operation, community engagement, and project delivery.
- The role performs other duties as assigned by the Environmental Project Coordinator in support of ongoing environmental programs and initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

- Previous experience with environmental monitoring, fieldwork, stewardship activities, research projects, or outdoor work is considered an asset.
- Experience working within Indigenous communities or organizations is considered an asset.
- Experience supporting community engagement activities, environmental programs, or outdoor education initiatives is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of environmental sampling techniques, data collection methods, and environmental stewardship practices is considered an asset.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence is considered an asset.

Working Conditions This position involves a combination of outdoor fieldwork, community-based activities, and office-based project support.

The role requires work in varying weather and environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, uneven terrain, insects, and natural environments.

The position involves physical labour and requires lifting and carrying equipment, supplies, and materials up to 30 pounds.

Travel throughout Caldwell First Nation's Traditional Territory and surrounding areas may be required.

Occasional evening, weekend, or flexible work hours may be required to accommodate weather conditions, field activities, community events, or project requirements.

Reporting Relationship The Environmental Field Technician reports directly to the Environmental Project Coordinator.

- Anishinaabe cultural knowledge or Traditional Ecological Knowledge.
- Experience with land-based learning, stewardship activities, harvesting, trail work, or environmental restoration projects.
- Experience supporting community events, educational programming, or public engagement initiatives.
- Experience using GPS equipment, drones, environmental monitoring equipment, data collection technologies, and GIS/data analysis software.

Pay: $27.00 per hour
