What is the Prospect?

Assignment: BMus Italian 100 & 101

School: The Glenn Gould School

Location: 273 Bloor Street West, Toronto (RCM building)

Wage Range: $110 - $130 per hour

Academic Term: 2026-2027 Academic Year / Term 1 & Term 2

Start Date: September 2026

The Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glenn Gould School (GGS) is seeking an instructor to teach Italian 100 and Italian 101, a year-long introductory Italian-language course offered over two semesters. The course is open to undergraduate students in all majors and is designed for students with little or no prior knowledge of Italian. It will introduce the fundamentals of Italian grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and sentence structure, while helping students develop basic skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

The goal of the course is to provide students with a practical foundation in the language and the confidence to communicate in Italian in everyday situations.

These sequential courses meet for 1.5 hours of instruction weekly (24 weeks - 12 weeks per term)



on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (both terms).

Requirements

What We're Looking For

- A Master's degree in Italian, Italian studies, language education, or a related field is required; a doctoral degree is preferred.
- Native or near-native fluency in Italian and thorough familiarity with the teaching of introductory Italian are essential.
- Previous experience teaching Italian at the post-secondary level is strongly preferred.

Additional Requirements

- The selection process may include a mock teaching assignment.
- The successful applicant will be expected to submit a week-by-week course outline.
- A valid Vulnerable Sector Check is a required condition of employment.
