Health & Safety Manager The Role The Health & Safety Manager will play a key leadership role in developing, implementing, and overseeing the Health & Safety (H&S;) program for a large, complex infrastructure project. This position ensures full compliance with applicable legislation while driving a robust safety culture across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities Health & Safety Leadership Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the Health & Safety program Ensure compliance with provincial H&S; legislation in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
Develop, refine, and maintain H&S; strategies to prevent workplace injuries and incidents Influence and support company-wide implementation of H&S; initiatives and training programs Deliver and coordinate H&S; training and communications for management and site personnel
Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous Improvement Provide regular reporting and performance analysis to senior management Elevate the overall level of excellence in Health & Safety performance Identify, assess, and anticipate safety risks through site inspections, audits, and incident investigations
Coordinate facility audits and establish audit standards Participate in daily site meetings to review and report field incidents Analyze safety incidents and construction environments to recommend improved construction methods
Emergency Preparedness Organise and lead regular emergency response drills Ensure rapid, effective response to emergency situations
Profile &
Qualifications Minimum 15 years of experience in the construction industry, preferably on large infrastructure projects Strong knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety regulations COR Auditor certification preferred Proven experience in tunneling or underground works, ideally with TBM operations Experience working in high-risk environments (nuclear, offshore, or similar) Familiarity with safety management systems and incident reporting tools Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills Strong time management, attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving abilities
