Director, Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) - Saint John, NB

We are seeking an experienced Director of HSSE to lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide health, safety, security, and environmental programs for a leading transportation and logistics organization. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a professional who can balance strategic vision with operational execution while influencing change at every level of the organization.

In this role, you will partner closely with executive leadership to ensure the protection of people, assets, and the communities in which we operate while driving measurable improvements in safety performance, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship.

What You'll Be Doing

- Develop and execute the organization's HSSE strategy, policies, and standards.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on safety, security, environmental, and compliance matters.
- Establish and manage long-term HSSE objectives, KPIs, and performance metrics.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial occupational health, safety, environmental, and transportation regulations.
- Lead regulatory inspections, audits, investigations, and corrective action programs.
- Oversee enterprise-wide risk assessments, incident management processes, and emergency preparedness programs.
- Monitor legislative changes and ensure proactive compliance across the organization.
- Drive initiatives that reduce recordable incidents, lost-time injuries, environmental events, and claims.
- Champion behavioral-based safety programs,



hazard identification processes, and near-miss reporting.
- Analyze HSSE performance data to identify trends and implement effective improvement strategies.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen operational safety and environmental performance.
- Mentor and develop HSSE professionals and operational leaders.
- Build strong relationships across field operations, management teams, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders.
- Promote employee engagement and ownership of safety at all levels of the organization.

What We're Looking For

- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive HSSE leadership experience within transportation, logistics, industrial, manufacturing, or other multi-site operational environments.
- Experience leading HSSE programs at a Director, Senior Manager, or equivalent leadership level.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian occupational health and safety legislation and environmental regulations.
- Demonstrated success developing and implementing enterprise-wide safety strategies.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Professional designation such as CRSP, CSP, NCSO, or an environmental certification.
- Experience leading regulatory audits and managing complex compliance programs.
- Background in transportation, trucking, logistics, supply chain, or fleet operations.
