Company Description Bahir Dar University (BDU), located in the scenic town of Bahir Dar on the shores of Lake Tana and the Blue Nile River, is one of the largest universities in Ethiopia. Formed in 2000 through the merger of Bahir Dar Polytechnic and Bahir Dar Teachers’ College, BDU now serves over 40,000 students across extensive undergraduate, postgraduate, specialty, and certificate programs. Role Description The Independent Researcher will conduct original research aligned with Bahir Dar University’s strategic priorities and research centres, working in office in a Canada-based collaborative setting.

Responsibilities include designing and implementing research projects, collecting and analyzing qualitative and/or quantitative data, and preparing research outputs such as reports, academic articles, and policy briefs.



The role involves engaging with local and international partners, presenting findings at seminars and conferences, and contributing to grant applications and project proposals.

The Independent

Researcher will also mentor junior researchers or students when appropriate and ensure that all research activities comply with ethical standards and institutional guidelines.

Qualifications

Strong research design and methodology skills, including experience with qualitative and/or quantitative approaches.

Proficiency in data collection, data management, and statistical or analytical tools relevant to the field of research.

Demonstrated ability to write clear, well-structured research reports, articles, and proposals for academic and non-academic audiences.

Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with interdisciplinary teams and external partners.

Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant discipline; advanced research training or postdoctoral experience is an asset.

Experience securing or contributing to research funding and participating in funded projects is beneficial.

Knowledge of university research environments, ethics review processes, and responsible research conduct.

Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in an on-site research setting in Canada.
