The First Nation School

Board (FNSB) was established in February 2022. Our main office is located in Whitehorse, Yukon, on the territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. FNSB serves and works in partnership with Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation, Liard First Nation, Ross River Dena Council, Champagne and Aishihik First Nation, White River First Nation, Ta'an Kwäch'än Council, Kwanlin Dün First Nation, Selkirk First Nation, Carcross/Tagish First Nation, and Kluane First Nation for the schools and Learners on their territories.

Our approach to instruction, programming, and operations promotes reconciliation by being grounding in Yukon First Nations values of student-centered, strengths-based, and community-led. Board-run schools are for all Yukon students.

For more information on the First Nation School Board, please visit https://www.fnsb.ca/ The Land and Language Connector plays an important role in connecting students, staff, and the school community to the land, language, and culture of the Ross River Dena Council. Working collaboratively with school staff, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, the Ross River Dena Council, and community members, this position supports the integration of Kaska language, land-based learning, and culturally responsive practices throughout the school. Located on the Territory of the Ross River Dena Council, Ross River School recognizes the deep history and enduring connection of the Kaska Dena to their traditional lands.

Dena people have lived across more than 240,000 square kilometres of southeast Yukon, southern Northwest Territories, and northwestern British Columbia for tens of thousands of years, long before the existence of provincial and territorial borders. Situated in Tu Łī́dlini (Ross River),



near the confluence of the Ross and Pelly rivers, the Land and Language Connector helps create meaningful learning experiences that honour the history, knowledge, values, and traditions within Dene K’éh while fostering students' sense of identity, belonging, and connection to the land. Through relationship-building, curriculum support, and on-the-land programming, the position contributes to student success and well-being while strengthening partnerships between the school and community.
