The Fidelity Legal Department provides legal services to all aspects of Fidelity's business.
Role Overview
The Legal Counsel provides legal services of all varieties, which make it possible for Fidelity to develop and offer investment products, enter into new relationships, establish new businesses and maintain existing business activities.
What You Will Do
Provide legal advice to all Fidelity Canada companies and business lines
Advise on securities laws and regulatory matters as they relate to new products, services, strategic projects and on miscellaneous issues as they arise
Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the asset management industry.
Prepare and maintain disclosure documents and material contracts for institutional and retail investment products, distribution arrangements and other services offered by Fidelity in Canada
Support mutual funds, ETFs, alternative investments and other investment products.
Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements
Identify legal risks and develop practical business solutions.
Assist with regulatory filings and interactions with securities regulators.
Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with various Fidelity departments, including Product, Marketing, Compliance, Risk and Fund Accounting
What We’re Looking For
LL.B./J.D. degree and member in good standing of a Canadian law society. 4 years post call experience in securities, investment funds or asset management law (law firm or in-house). Knowledge of Canadian securities regulation and investment fund regulation. Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
Solid communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
The Expertise You Bring
Experience at a major law firm, bank, pension fund or asset manager preferred. Knowledge of corporate and securities law Strong analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Effective prioritization of tasks, ability to deliver high quality work under pressure Can effectively collaborate on projects and initiatives and build relationships within legal department as well as with business partners Working knowledge of the legal structure, regulatory requirements and internal standards relating to mutual funds, pooled funds, separate account management, and sub-advised accounts is an asset

Base Salary and Discretionary Performance Bonus: Total annual cash compensation (base salary pus target bonus) ranges from $164,000 to $194,000, based on your experience and qualifications.
