ABOUT US
Onion Lake Family Services is an organization that strengthens family units by offering support and resources to parents and caregivers, aiming for healthy homes. Our short-term, strength based services focus on empowering families for long term improvement and skill building.
Roles and Responsiblities The Male Prevention Worker provides innovative programs and services that enrich the wellbeing, health and prosperity of children and families. We strive to provide program and workshop delivery to support a thriving and self-reliant for the members of Onion Lake Cree Nation.
The Prevention
Worker will coordinate a variety of workshops and programs is such areas as self-esteem, personal growth, parenting, anger management, suicide prevention, healthy relationships, and life skills. The worker will incorporate appropriate cultural ad traditional practices into all community activities and programs while ensuring proper protocols are implemented.
· Organize, arrange, conduct, and facilitate family circles in a time sensitive manner.
· Develop and facilitate programs that promote inclusion, participation, creativity, and empowerment to the male community.
· Collaborate with other community departments as needed for Program Delivery.
·Host workshops that promote positive parenting, life skills and healthy fathers.
· Ensure community-based activities are culturally relevant and includes community Elders.
· Provide referrals to community agencies for needs such as counselling services, alcohol and drug programming and assessments, ect.
· Identify, document and report to Family Service Workers the physical, emotional and behavioral indicators of abuse, neglect and emotional injury.
· Present and facilitate workshops to large groups of participants.
· Apply the principles of the Signs of Safety Framework in practice.
· Record keeping, reporting stats, contact notes, ect.
· Transferring of knowledge of land-based activities and language development promoting the Cree culture.
· Complete administrative tasks related to funding for programming and ensuring timely completion of paperwork.
· Prepare and submit competed proposals for programs and workshops for the male community.
· Work within the team to assist with programming and facilitation as needed.
· Obtain feedback from client group on effectiveness of programs and workshops.
· Transportation of clients.
· Adhere to all OLFS policies and procedures.
· Other duties that are complimentary to the role of the Male Prevention Worker.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
· Certificate or diploma in Human Services, social work certificate or diploma. Equivalences will be considered
· Related work experience will be considered
· Knowledge and experience in Cree culture, protocols and ceremonies is an asset
· Combined education and experience will be considered
· Valid class 5 driver’s license with acceptable abstract
· Transparent criminal record with vulnerable sector
