Overview

Air Notions is a custom HVAC equipment manufacturer based in Dundas, Ontario, specializing in custom air handling units (AHUs) and make-up air units (MUAs) for commercial and industrial applications across Canada and the United States.

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Designer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing and optimizing mechanical systems and components, utilizing CAD tools and engineering principles. This position offers the opportunity to work on engineered HVAC equipment and contribute directly to the design and development of custom air-handling systems.

Duties

- Design and configure custom air-handling units and make-up air units based on project specifications, airflow requirements, and performance targets.
- Perform airflow and basic mechanical calculations to support equipment configuration and system performance.
- Select HVAC components such as fans, coils, dampers, filters, and heat recovery devices.
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications.
- Develop schematics and technical documentation for mechanical systems, integrating electrical components like Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
- Design mechanical components and assemblies suitable for manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, welding, and assembly.
- Create and update technical documentation such as BOMs, equipment lists, and installation manuals.
- Review project specifications for custom HVAC equipment and collaborate with sales engineers and clients.




- Review designs to ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and functional specifications.
- Support prototype development and testing, providing technical expertise in drafting, system design, and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD to design mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with HVAC equipment such as air-handling units (AHUs), fans, coils, dampers, and filters.
- Experience designing fabricated assemblies or sheet metal components.
- Strong understanding of mechanical drafting, schematics, and technical documentation standards.
- Strong aptitude for learning new technical concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively managing and tracking multiple projects.
- Self-driven with solid organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented.

Preferred Experience

- Experience designing air-handling units (AHUs), make-up air units (MAUs), or similar HVAC equipment.
- Familiarity with HVAC airflow and system design principles.
- Experience working with custom or engineered-to-order equipment.
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes
