Murex Business Analyst to support client in Investment Industry

Location: Toronto (Hybrid – 4 days in office is mandated, although team is usually in on Tue/Thu)

Contract: Initially until end of March 2026, then extended 6 months + past that etc.

Start: ASAP

Hours: 37.5

Bring your Own Device

Overview

You will join a small, highly collaborative engineering-side team (not a traditional business BA environment). The role blends business analysis, functional Murex expertise, data understanding, and the ability to guide technical teams through product changes. This is not a numbers-heavy or documentation-only role—you’ll be expected to dig into data, understand products, and help translate business needs into technical execution.

Responsibilities

- Act as the functional expert for Murex across the team; support ongoing initiatives related to new products and enhancements.
- Translate business requirements into clear functional specifications for engineering teams.
- Analyze Murex data outputs using SQL to understand issues, reconcile mismatches, and validate end-to-end flows.
- Guide the team through functional changes that have technical impacts; participate in whiteboarding and in-person solutioning sessions.
- Work closely with product leads, the technology team, and business partners to support new asset classes, trade types, or events (e.g., share re-rates, lending scenarios).
- Use Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow for backlog management, documentation, and incident tracking.
- Leverage modern tools—including AI—to accelerate analysis, documentation, and solution creation.
- Support knowledge sharing and help level up newer team members.
- Contribute to an Agile Scrum environment and participate in sprint ceremonies.

Must-Have Qualifications

- 5+ years as a Business Analyst in financial markets or capital markets technology.
- Strong SQL experience (5+ years) – able to independently pull and analyze data, review existing reports, and troubleshoot data issues (no DBA-level tuning required).

- Murex functional knowledge – understanding of how trades, products, and events flow through Murex.
- Experience in Agile/Scrum, with hands-on use of Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow.
- Ability to bridge the gap between business and technology—this team sits fully on the engineering side.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills for in-person team sessions.
- Comfort operating in a hybrid environment (4 days in office; Tue/Thu are core collaboration days).
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, teaching, and continuous improvement.
- Interest in or familiarity with modern AI tools to accelerate productivity.

Nice-to-Have Skills

- Python or Java
- Experience working in both product and BA capacities
- Background in capital markets, trade lifecycle, or risk systems beyond Murex
