Description
Reporting to the Supervisor, Municipal Law Enforcement, the Municipal Law Enforcement Officer (MLEO) provides exceptional customer service through education, investigation, compliance and enforcement of municipal by-laws and related legislation. The MLEO works closely with residents, businesses, Council and staff to support community standards, public safety and regulatory compliance while promoting a high standard of customer service.
Highlights Of Key Responsibilities Include
- Investigate, educate and enforce municipal by-laws, property standards requirements and applicable Provincial Legislation.
- Respond to complaints and conduct site visits, witness interviews and compliance follow-up activities.
- Issue orders, tickets and fines and prepare court documentation and disclosure briefs as required.
- Administer and enforce a variety of regulatory by-laws including noise, canine control, signs, site alteration, pools, refreshment stands and special events.
- Investigate dog bite complaints and support legal proceedings where required.
- Review permits and licenses, providing recommendations regarding issuance and compliance matters.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and work flexible schedules including evenings and weekends when required.
- Maintain accurate records, occurrence reports and enforcement documentation.

Requirements
The ideal candidate has college diploma focused on law, security or related discipline and possesses at least one (1) year of related enforcement experience. You have strong knowledge of municipal and provincial legislation, including the interpretation and application of municipal, provincial and federal statutes and by-laws. You demonstrate sound judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with elected officials, residents, businesses, staff and community stakeholders in a public service workplace.
A valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License in good standing and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions are required.
A satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and Criminal Background Check are required for this role.
Salary & Benefits
This bargaining unit position offers a salary commensurate with experience and education (2026 salary range of $32.48/hr. – 39.05/hr.).
