Job Title: PCB Layout Designer

Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 CAD annually
As the PCB Layout Designer, you will be responsible for working with the Electrical and Mechanical designers to update or create recent PCB layout designs.
Responsibilities:
- Creating and reviewing new footprints.
- Follow internal process checklist for creating new footprints
- Utilize Altium Designer software proficiently for complete PCB layouts, ensuring adherence to design constraints and project specifications.
- Collaborate closely with Electrical and Mechanical design teams to understand requirements and address cross-functional design considerations.
- Design PCB layouts for various electronic devices and components, including boards with multi-layer (4-20+ layers) and complex routing requirements.
- Apply High-Speed design techniques, including differential pairs and impedance-controlled routing for components such as DDR4, DDR5, and high-frequency interfaces.
- Conduct thorough layout verification, simulation, and testing to ensure design functionality and signal integrity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues identified during layout verification, testing, or production, working to minimize design iterations and production disruptions.
- Create ODB+ and custom output packages for manufacturing.
Requirements:
- 5+ years’ experience using Altium Software
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience in PCB design and layout.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in PCB layout design, preferably in industries such as defense, industrial, automotive, or rugged electronics.
- Experience creating and maintaining parts for the footprint library.
- Able to collaborate with the Electrical and Mechanical Design teams.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) principles to ensure layouts are optimized for production and testing.
- Proven experience creating comprehensive design package files, including ODB++ and Gerber files, for seamless handoff to manufacturing partners.
- Working with PCB manufacturing suppliers to review and comment on engineering questions.
- Experience with layout verification tools and simulation software for design validation (e.g., Signal Integrity, Power Integrity tools).
- Familiarity with IPC standards (e.g., IPC-2221, IPC-7351) and other industry standards governing PCB layout and design.
- Knowledge of performance class design and level of producibility
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with basic office computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; Google Suite)
- Highly motivated and energetic
- Strong problem-solving skills and strategic thinking ability
- Excellent team player with strong communication and collaboration skills
- Able to obtain and maintain a positive Controlled Goods Assessment
