Our client is a rapidly growing consumer packaged goods (CPG) organization seeking a motivated Plant Accountant to join its finance team. Reporting to the Plant Controller, this role will play a key part in supporting plant operations, inventory management, financial analysis, and cost optimization initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Senior Manager, Cost Accounting to support all aspects of plant finance and manufacturing accounting.
- Maintain and enhance the accuracy of standard costing within the SAP ERP environment.
- Prepare, analyze, and distribute key operational and financial reports, including monthly KPI dashboards and plant performance metrics.
- Review actual manufacturing costs against budgets and forecasts, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Analyze material, labor, overhead, and production variances, providing actionable recommendations to operations leadership.
- Monitor inventory transactions, including scrap, rework, obsolescence, write-offs, and inventory adjustments.
- Support costing analysis for current product launches and product development initiatives, partnering with Marketing and Operations teams.
- Assist in gathering and analyzing financial and operational data to support strategic projects and day-to-day manufacturing activities.
- Evaluate monthly plant spending and identify opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and waste minimization.
- Participate in internal and external audits while ensuring compliance with accounting standards, SOX requirements, and company policies.
- Oversee inventory accounting across raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, packaging, and consignment inventory.
- Perform reviews of inventory controls, cycle counts, physical inventories, and variance reconciliations.
- Maintain inventory valuation schedules under a standard costing environment and ensure appropriate capitalization and variance treatment.
- Support fixed asset accounting, capital expenditure tracking, MRO reporting, and related financial analysis.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives that strengthen financial controls, reporting accuracy, and operational effectiveness.
- Assist with ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and special projects as the organization continues to grow.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing or consumer packaged goods environment.
- Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, variance analysis, and manufacturing operations.
- Experience working with ERP systems, preferably SAP.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, complex formulas, and data analysis tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proven ability to identify process improvements and implement solutions that drive efficiency and strengthen controls.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and Plant Management.
- Hands-on, proactive team player who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
