Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Cost Specialist to support a major mining project in British Columbia. This role will be based in Vancouver, BC, with occasional travel to the project site in BC. The Cost Specialist will be responsible for monitoring, tracking, and reporting project costs to ensure alignment with budgets and schedules, while supporting overall financial performance.

Job Title: Cost Specialist – Mining Project

Employment Type: starting as a contractor with potential to transfer as an employee in June 2026, if that is preferable.

Responsibilities

- Cost Tracking & Control: Monitor project expenditures against budgets and forecasts; track commitments, actual costs, and variances; ensure accurate cost coding and timely cost data entry.
- Budget & Forecast Management: Assist in developing and maintaining project cost estimates and budgets; prepare cost forecasts and cash flow projections; support monthly budget reviews with project managers.
- Reporting: Prepare and distribute regular cost reports and variance analyses; provide transparent explanations for cost deviations and recommend corrective actions; support internal and client reporting requirements.
- Change Management:



Track and evaluate cost impacts of change orders and scope changes; maintain change logs and ensure accurate documentation; work closely with project management, procurement, and scheduling teams to ensure cost alignment; liaise with site personnel for cost data collection and verification.

Qualifications

- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, or related discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in cost control, preferably in mining, construction, or large-scale industrial projects.
- Strong proficiency in MS Excel; experience with cost control software (e.g., Prism, EcoSys, SAP) is an asset.
- Knowledge of earned value management principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
